When I was 19 years old, I worked for a church, and the pastor noticed pretty quickly that I was creative.
One day, he assigned a creative project to me.
He got me the tools I needed.
Told me to start learning.
Trusted me.
Invested in me.
Believed in me.
That moment changed my life more than he probably realized.
And something I appreciate now, looking back, is that he didn’t just place me wherever there was a need.
He didn’t hand me drum sticks simply because they needed a drummer.
He didn’t ask me to learn spreadsheets because they needed an accountant.
He recognized a creative gift in me and developed me in the area God had already wired me for.
That was the beginning of my ministry as a creative.
The people holding cameras, designing graphics, running media, creating videos, and telling stories are helping document what God is doing in the lives of people. They are often shaping the very first impression someone has of a church.
And honestly, I understand that many churches feel short on volunteers right now.
But sometimes I wonder if part of the problem is that we are so focused on filling positions quickly that we are not slowing down long enough to recognize, disciple, and develop the people God may have already appointed for those roles.
There are creatives sitting in churches right now with incredible potential.
They just need someone willing to notice them, trust them, invest in them, and help sharpen the gift God gave them.
We can’t neglect discipleship and values just because we need someone to fill the role.
If you are a church leader and you want to begin developing creatives in your church, I would genuinely love to help. Find the link in my bio to get started!
