Claire let me take her film cameras for a spin to use up some film to send off to the lab. I graced her with a shot of the inside of my camera bag for one (sorry Claire 😖). I was mind blown when I shot with the Pentax 6x7 - felt like I shot a cannon ball into the air. I shot the Nikon after we lost light but I love them all the same. I think I’m getting closer to getting that upgrade I’ve been thinking about.

An ode to the misfits on a personal roll.
I try to throw a roll of film in between sessions to make sure I’m ready to capture my own life. Sometimes I forget I had already started a roll and try to reload some film again - exposing a few of the frames. I don’t know why I like these so much. Maybe it’s the symbolism of how I’m so much softer on myself these days - giving myself the space for mistakes. Maybe I just like the reaction of the film and the colours I get. Maybe it’s both.

“…the story of the hair choice — it’s bc I loved doing those curls as a kid. And now that I’m not losing my hair I was attempting a nod to the old me, the child version.”

I consider .its.claire a huge mentor of mine. It was her encouragement that helped me get the confidence to go back to shooting film. Her amazing pushed me to expand and stay curious and has allowed me to meet other amazing film photogs from here and other countries. What attracts me to Claire’s work is she isn’t afraid to show the not so bright times, making her art pound with emotion - where others might turn away.

Claire has started chemo and has been very open about it which I truly admire. She is also sharing snippets of beautiful words from her book she is writing while navigating it all. I suggest you give her a follow if you love poetry, feeling deeply all while sprinkling in some humour when you’re least expecting it. Claire is a huge inspiration. ❤️

Just a friendly reminder to those that tend to get stuck in their head (me). You can’t smell the roses when you’re letting yourself get suffocated by your own thoughts. I’m taking the long weekend to go touch grass. ✌🏻
