My dad and I went to both of my siblings classrooms and got to talk to them and their classmates, have them feel and taste kelp, and teach them about how we harvest, what it is used for, how it grows (and how fast!) and show them some photos from out on the water. It was such a cool experience and I would love to do more things like this! I think I got some cool big sister points too ๐คญ
You never know who you are going to inspire to fall in love with the ocean, kelp or the ecosystems they support, seeing their little faces light up with wonder, loving kelp pickles, and asking such thoughtful questions I never would have considered was an awesome experience ๐ฟ
The next generation caring for the ocean and our planet is so important โ and itโs hard to care about something youโve never seen or learned much about. Iโm so grateful to have had the chance to spark even a little curiosity ๐
Itโs so full circle for me, because when I was their age I was going out on the water with our dad on weekends or holidays, getting to watch him harvest from the very same kelp beds and learning first hand the things I am now able to share with them and their friends, life is cool. ๐
