If you love trout and solitude, early season in the backcountry of Lake Superior Provincial Park is one of the best places you can be.

There are tons of accounts that make tripping with a dog look easy and incredible.

Reality: it can be tough, just like tripping *without* a dog can often be.

Some things to know:
- your dog might dislike the long drive
- your dog might dislike being transported in a canoe
- when its not feeling anxious, your dog might feel bored the rest of the time
- your dog might not value the experience more than the consistency and stability of spending that time at home
- most parks require that your dog remain on a 6ft leash the whole time
- you need to pay attention to your dog the whole time, which might diminish your own experience

Every dog is different.
Take stock of your experience with them but more importantly, their experience, and make compassionate decisions.

It was a truly unique experience - fishing out of Slate Falls Outposts Fly-In Fishing Root Bay location in the west end of Lake St Joseph with Mike Borger.
The fishing was better than I've ever experienced and so was the wildlife spotting. I really hope to return to that area one day in a canoe.

Watched Lost Lakes' recent video where Jon and Kevin (Wild) spent a few late season days in Noganosh and couldn't get a fish to bite.
It was just a matter of bad timing in my opinion. Kevin was on the right track with his choice of lure. 90% of the fish I caught, the last time I was there, bit a gold and orange spoon just like what Kevin was throwing for some of the time.

One of the best winter hikes in the Niagara region is, in my opinion, the Louth Side Trail.

You can hike a custom 3.7km trail in this small, out-of-the-way patch of Conservation Area and that should chew up an hour or more. There's 77m of elevation change and a beautifully layered landscape to enjoy. It is part of the Bruce Trail so there is much more to explore for the adventurous.

Be cautious of the extra slippery conditions that ice will create and the ankle-snapper potholes in the rocky terrain.

Noganosh holds a dark secret: a decades old garbage dump.
It appeared that the remains of an old lodge or office was left to the wilderness a long time ago. Soda cans, full garbage bags, plastic jugs, tin cans, bed frames and the springs from long gone mattresses, fridges, drums...
It was truly the last thing I expected to come across after the paddle and portages to get in there.
A prime piece of nature, ruined for multiple generations.

One of my favorite topwater experiences was targeting frontcountry smallmouth bass in the early season at Bruce Peninsula Park.
It's been very tough to do that lately - the park has been full every time I've attempted it in recent years, despite arriving well before opening hours.
This clip is from 2016, when I was still rocking a fishing kayak.
