Here are the ๐ ๐๐๐ญ๐๐ข๐ฅ๐ฌ I paid attention to when creating this image. Number 6 is the easiest to miss!!

A good image begins before it leaves your SD card. Cloudy days are ideal for even natural lighting. I like to have the light hit my subject from the side (or ~45 degrees) for just enough shadow definition.

If you donโt have any presets, you can copy and paste the adjustments from a previously edited photo you like and continue tweaking from there.

For a soft look, lower contrast highlights whites, lift shadows, and add back a bit of definition by lowering blacks.

Use the spot healing tool to remove stray items that make the image noisy. In some instances the clone tool may work better.

When the background isnโt evenly lit, Iโll use the graduated filter tool to manually brighten corners/sides. You can also try the vignette tool. Skip this if you like moodier photos.

The kitchen lights from the back of the cafe casted a red glow onto Ainahโs white shirt. This is easily fixed with the brush tool (you can see the spots I coloured over), desaturating those areas and adding a bit of green tint because green is the opposite of red!
Editing photos is like playing a game of I Spy, it takes a keen eye to find the flaws. Would you have noticed these edits?
