Proof it isn’t about the camera.

After years of photographing families, I think I needed this reminder too.

You don’t need the newest camera.
You don’t need the perfect lens.
You don’t need perfect light.

You just need to notice the moment. ✨🏰

Turns out I’m the kinda chic to disappear from social media for almost a month and still be a photographer.

There’s this pressure in creative business to always be visible, always be posting, always be “on” but being present for my own family felt like exactly where I was supposed to be.

Our sweet Frosty. 🤍

Today we had to say goodbye to one of the greatest loves of our lives, and our hearts are broken.

Frosty came into our lives shortly after we moved to Canada over 15 years ago. She had been found under a cabin with frostbite on her tiny nose, which is how she got her name. It suited her in some ways she wasn’t interested in making friends with everyone she met. But if she chose you, you had her heart forever.

She wasn’t just our cat. She was part of the foundation of our life here. She was there as we built our home, through every season and every milestone. She welcomed London into the world and watched her grow.

For more than 15 years, she slept on me or at least beside me almost every night. In the last few months, as her condition changed, she couldn’t anymore. That decline had been particularly hard for me as she had been a constant presence that quietly anchored the end of every day.

Our home feels so empty today.

Thank you for choosing us, Frosty. Thank you for 15 beautiful years of companionship, for your gentle head bumps, your loud purrs, your stubborn personality, and your unwavering love for your family.

You came into our lives when we were beginning a new chapter, and you’ve been part of every chapter since.

We will miss you every single day.

You’ll always be part of our family, and a piece of our hearts will always belong to you. 🤍🐾

The best photographs don’t just show a moment they guide you into it.

Framing has become one of the most powerful composition techniques in my photography. Whether you’re shooting through leaves, using a doorway, layering family members in the foreground, or letting architecture surround your subject, thoughtful framing adds depth, emotion, and story.

Instead of asking, “Where should I stand?” try asking:
✨ What can I shoot through?
✨ What can I place in the foreground?
✨ How can I lead the viewer’s eye?
✨ What helps tell the story beyond my subject?

Sometimes the most compelling frame is already there, you just have to notice it.

One day, this house will look different.

The crib will be gone.

The tiny sleepers packed away.

The little feet will be much bigger.

But these photographs will bring you right back to the beginning.

Home isn’t just where your story happens.

It’s part of the story itself.

This is why I love backyard sessions. Kids being themselves, excited to show me all their favourite things, and the moments, the real ones, they happen so naturally and so beautifully. This is what childhood looks like.
