NASA's Orion spacecraft carrying Artemis II Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, and Mission Specialist Christina Koch from NASA, along with Mission Specialist Jeremy Hansen from the CSA (Canadian Space Agency), splashes down in the Pacific Ocean near San Diego, California, at 5:07pm PDT, (8:07pm EDT) on Friday, April 10th, 2026.

The Artemis II test flight launched on Wednesday, April 1, from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida to begin its 10-day journey around the Moon for scientific discovery, economic benefits, and to build on our foundation for the first crewed missions to Mars. NASA’s Landing and Recovery team and the U.S. military are coordinating efforts to extract the Artemis II crew from the Orion spacecraft.

A stunning snapshot in time.

The Artemis II crew captured this breathtaking photo of our galaxy, the Milky Way on April 7th, 2026. The Milky Way’s elegant spiral structure is dominated by just two arms wrapping off the ends of a central bar of stars. Spanning more than 100,000 light-years, Earth is located along one of the galaxy’s spiral arms, about halfway from the center.

Godspeed back to Earth tomorrow, with splash down in the Pacific Ocean expected to happen around 5:07pm PDT (0007 UTC on Saturday, April 11th) off the coast of San Diego, California.

A solar eclipse was also captured by the Artemis II crew during their lunar flyby on April 6th, 2026. This image shows the Moon fully eclipsing the Sun.

From the crew’s perspective, the Moon appears large enough to completely block the Sun, creating nearly 54 minutes of totality and extending the view far beyond what is possible from Earth.

Earthset.

The Artemis II crew captured this view of an Earthset on April 6th, 2026, as they flew around the Moon. The image is reminiscent of the iconic Earthrise image taken by astronaut Bill Anders on December 24th, 1968 as the Apollo 8 crew flew around the Moon. Absolutely stunning.

The Artemis II astronauts have surpassed the record for the distance from Earth at 1:56 EDT (1756 UTC). This record was previously set during the Apollo 13 mission when the astronauts traveled 248,655 miles (400,171 kilometres) from Earth. The Moon continues to grow larger and larger in the windows of the Orion spacecraft as the Artemis II mission gears up to observe the far side. The astronauts are predicted to make their closest approach of the Moon around 7:02pm EDT (2302 UTC).

Today marks the day of the spring equilux. But what is the spring equilux and how is it different from the equinox?

The equilux is the moment when the length of the day and night are the same: 12 hours each.

However, this happens a few days before the equinox in spring and a few days after the equinox in fall. The actual equinox, which occurs on March 20th this year, is when the sun is directly above the equator, illuminating both hemispheres equally.

The best part about living around a commercial area of a city is that on a clear and crispy night, with a little bit of ice crystals in the air and just the right temperature, light pillars make an appearance.

Well, I guess a snowy night hauling up north does have it’s benefits, and our location north of Doe River, British Columbia straddling the AB/BC border has some magnifcent light pillar action going on tonight as well. Good stuff.
