Meet the Great Grey Owl — one of the largest owls in the world, yet almost ghost-like in flight. This was my first finding them and they were spotted in the wilds of Alberta.
This silent hunter uses its exceptional hearing to detect prey beneath deep snow. With a wingspan reaching up to 5 feet and its piercing yellow eyes, it’s a true icon of the boreal forest. Moments like this remind us of the hidden wonders just beyond the treeline.

Thanks for taking me on the drive and helping me find them. It was indeed a wonderful experience.

Saskatchewan’s wild charm never ceases to amaze! The red fox is known for its adaptability, sharp hunting skills, and keen senses. Found in diverse habitats across the Northern Hemisphere, these clever creatures can run up to 50 km/h and have incredible hearing that allows them to locate prey underground.

Rough-legged Hawk (Buteo lagopus)

The Rough-legged Hawk spends the summer capturing lemmings on the arctic tundra, tending a cliffside nest under a sun that never sets. Winter is the time to see this large, open-country hawk in southern Canada and the U.S., where it may be perched on a pole or hovering over a marsh or pasture on the hunt for small rodents. Found globally across northern latitudes, this species occurs in both light and dark forms. This one here is a dark morph.

The Indian leopard (Panthera pardus fusca) is a leopard subspecies widely distributed on the Indian subcontinent. The Indian leopard is one of the big cats occurring on the Indian subcontinent, along with the Asiatic lion, Bengal tiger, snow leopard and clouded leopard. A national population of 12000-14000 individuals is speculated in India.

While leopards generally avoid humans, they tolerate proximity to humans better than lions and tigers and often come into conflict with humans when raiding livestock. Sadly, leopards are one of the most poached wild cats in India.
Save wildcats.

A warm welcome to Saskatchewan, Canada

Our winter guests are back to Saskatchewan. Let’s pledge to treat them the best we can and not to give them a chance to complain.

The common raccoon (Procyon lotor) is a mid-size mammal distinguished by its black face mask and ringed tail.
The English word raccoon comes from the Algonquian language which means “one that rubs, scrubs, and scratches with its hands.”
When raccoons were introduced overseas in Europe and Asia, several cultures adopted terms for the animal that mean “wash-bear.” This was based on the raccoon’s bear-like appearance and habit of seemingly washing its food before eating.

A Bird’s eye view of different trees during the Fall season in the forest. Leafless Aspen trees, evergreen and the yellow Tamarack trees can be seen here.

Change in perspective can make a big difference.

American Avocets having some personal conversation.

American Avocet spends much of its time foraging in shallow water or on mud flats, often sweeping its bill from side to side in water as it seeks crustaceans and insects.

One of the most attractive shorebirds visitong Saskatchewan during the spring months.
Its amazing to watch them feed in groups at Sask lakes.
