Douglas Fir’s final camp day of spring! 🌲💚
What an amazing season with this wonderful group of children!
We shared so much fun, learning, teamwork, exploration, and adventure. Each week brought new ideas, discoveries, and opportunities to grow together. I loved taking my planning to the next level, and the children worked so well as a team throughout the season.
Today, we completed an owl painting that they have been asking me to make for quite some time. They turned out beautifully! 🦉🎨
But more than anything, today’s goal was simply to enjoy a day outdoors with friends—a perfect celebration of all the hard work, curiosity, and enthusiasm they brought over the last few weeks.
Thank you, Douglas Fir group, for such a fantastic spring season. What a wonderful way to end our time together! 🌿☀️

Little walk down memory lane today 💛
Today we visited Valleyview Little Animal Farm.
The last time we went, my boys were still so little. I’ve always felt like COVID took away visits we could have made when Autumn was young, and I never really got to enjoy that “last visit.”
Luckily for me, I now have two young nephews, and we decided to all go together today!
Did we feel a little weird and out of place at times? Of course 😆 My kids were definitely the biggest ones there!
But we put that aside and simply enjoyed a morning at this sweet little farm — a place I visited so many times when my children were young. It was so nice watching my big kids just be kids again for a little while.
I truly enjoyed this “last visit.” A bittersweet morning filled with so many memories of those precious moments when my big kids were still small 💛

How cute are these little bee water bowls?! 🐝 Oh my goodness, I absolutely love them… I even made one for myself! 💛
What a beautiful day to be outside — filled with toads, visits from Holly and Bear, chick cuddles, Millie love, and even a walk down to visit our lovely neighbours’ horses 🐴
The children spent time creating rivers, engaging in lots of imaginative play, and learning about the importance of pollinators — especially for fruit trees. We talked about how apple trees need cross-pollination to help produce fruit and why bees play such an important role in that process 🍎🌸🐝

Found a little milk snake on our road today!
This poor little one was not very happy about my rescue attempts. I’ll admit, I got a little nervous when it started lunging at me — hence the stick to help guide it safely off the road where it likely would have been squished.
Did you notice the other really cool defence mechanism it has?? Look closely at its tail! When milk snakes feel threatened, they will shake their tails like a rattlesnake to warn predators and protect themselves.
Poor little dude didn’t realize I was trying to save it 😅
I safely moved this little one into the grass, and believe it or not, I found two on the road today! So cool 🐍🌿

My new little chicken, Petunia ❤️❤️
She was given to me by a friend over the weekend and I am in love.
She is small sassy and full of love.
I moved her into the big coop tonight (they say it’s usually best to do this at night)
I hope she does well tonight and integrates well into the coop with the rest of my chickens.
I will check in her tomorrow AM and I hope she bonds with my other little bantam sized hens. 🤞🏼🤞🏼here’s hoping

Fall Programs Update 🍂🍂

The Evergreen Program is a nature-based outdoor learning experience designed to encourage curiosity, independence, creativity, and confidence in young children. Throughout the fall season, children explore and learn through hands-on experiences in nature while developing important social, emotional, physical, and cognitive skills.

Our days are filled with forest exploration, imaginative play, seasonal crafts, nature observations, storytelling, and child-led learning opportunities. Children will discover local plants and animals, observe seasonal changes, build habitats, explore ponds and forests, and participate in sensory-rich activities that encourage problem-solving and teamwork.

The fall season offers endless opportunities for learning as we investigate leaves, seeds, insects, animal habitats, weather changes, decomposition, and the important role nature plays in our environment.

The Evergreen Program supports school readiness through play-based learning while fostering a strong connection to the outdoors and helping children build confidence, resilience, and a lifelong appreciation for nature.

🍃🍃 Summer Sapling Program 🍃🍃

Enjoy a summer morning at Mountain Road Homestead with drop-in opportunities through our Saplings Program.

This summer drop-in program is perfect for children who are a little too young for a drop-off camp but are ready to enjoy fun, engaging experiences alongside a parent or caregiver. Being outdoors supports early development, helping young children build gross motor skills, confidence, sensory awareness, and social connections in a relaxed, natural setting.

Families will enjoy time together exploring the mud kitchen, play area, with a simple craft for children to create and take home—plus so much more.

A gentle, joyful way to experience summer learning in nature 🌿

Sapling Summer Program
Time: 9:30–12:00

Dates:
• Friday, July 3rd
• Thursday, July 30
• Thursday, August 20

Cost:
• $25 per child/morning (children under 18 months accompanied by another child are free)
• $30 per family/morning


Please note: No refunds for missed days.

Once registration and payment are received, a confirmation email will be sent within 48 hours to confirm your child’s spot.
