It’s Broken Arrow weekend! Something I’ve been looking forward to and working hard towards for months. But sometimes life hands you rotten lemons, possibly brought on by your own stubbornness to slow down.

Starting a race with fear a of not finishing is not something anyone wants looming over them! But I’ll toe the line and I’ll play chess with the injury gods, a game I’ve often lost, but here I am again. Stubborn as ever.

Wish me healthy hips!? 🤷‍♀️🤞

We are finding a new trail Benji. 🐼

Seemed appropriate to lead this one with Benji at the trail head.

It’s been an eventful few days for this guy, but he’s been a symbol of courage in this time. Cautious but curious, overwhelmed but adventurous.

// print felt like it was made for Alex and I.

Horsing about in the Mountain Kingdom. 🐎

The relationship with a Basotho Pony and their herdsmen fascinates me. I spend much of my time in the thin air thinking about the Western idea of a happy horse vs the reality of a Basotho pony. At first glance, I questions ethics, but spend some time getting to know the horses and their herdsman and you might find yourself with a morale dilemma.

The Lesotho section of UTD100mile sets the scene of a unique collision. At the one end, Lesotho - vast, remote, challenging and rural. On the other end, individuals at the pinnacle of Maslow’s theories. Yes, you heard it here, running 100miles - a deep dive into your inner potential and purpose, providing meaning and soul searching… the tip of the pyramid, firmly within the bracket of self-actualisation.

(Had to use my years of Psychology at some point in my adult life 😌)

For the reasons above, Ultra-Trail Drakensberg remains the most fascinating race to document. It’s a dive into the human condition, on so many levels.

Ultra-Trail Drakensberg 2023 🖤

This race is always equally rewarding and challenging to shoot. The 2022 addition saw plenty of jaw dropping moments, tricky and shifty light that somehow played along to capture dramatic moments. This year was plagued with unlucky decisions and good light but without a single runner in those picture perfect moments.

As a racer and a photographer, I’d say some of the highest pressure moments are behind my camera. This comes down to being surrounded by the creative talent that this trail community holds. It’s a race of its own and we all feel it and thrive off of it.

My drive for last year was to become an unflustered photographer, while I’m far from sacking my frantic self, this 2023 edition of UTD has given the perspective I’ve needed to see the growth within that department.

Here are some morning photos. Some of runners at dusk and some of at sunrise, who wasn’t entered in the race… but became a sunrise subject /// extraordinaire videographer 🤣

Thank you . So much love for this race.

More images to come. Expect ponies. Expect lots of ponies. 🖤

A month out of Canada and some photos of a month in Canada have made it to my website…… see you in a month Canada?

I’ll return to spring, and I have a feeling the summer mountain tops will fulfil as much as the powdered peaks.

Link in bio if you want to have a look. 🫣

Just two pow hounds from South Africa dreaming of days in the backcountry.

I’ll return to Canada in Spring and I can’t wait to experience the blooming beautiful British Columbia. 🌸

Chamonix in the summertime at dusk.

Nearly time to embark on an entirely new adventure! This year will see lots of traveling, back and forths, new opportunities, hellos, goodbyes, see you laters, hopefully winter sports, racing, training and exploring!

First up is a 1 month trip to join Alex in Canada, to suss things out and hopefully decide that Canada is our new forever home. 🐾🐾

I’ll be back in SA in March & April to pack some more bags, prep the dogs, do some work, wait for some red tape to get approved, enjoy some family time in the bush and maybe throw in a race or two.

South Africa will always hold a special place in my heart… but the world is a big place and full of magic.

The final post of my wedding bombardment, for now at least, goes out to my family.

The first frame is of my mom, hustler of hustlers, sewing in my party sleeves post dinner - in less than 10 minutes. And my sister, Aliece, keeping me patient while boogie hour was calling.

The third frame, Benji, Spencer and Toni - I shouldn’t have to say this… but family!

The final frame, my dad stopping Sylvia from doing something silly I’m sure. Always there to save the day!

From our wedding, beach dates and Christmas time.

The past few weeks have been filled with family and happiness. This morning Alex hopped on a flight to Canada, I’ll be joining him in a couple of months. In the meantime I’ll be hanging onto the 6 years of memories, where he went from boyfriend, to best friend, to my life partner.

Benji, Spencer, the rest of our family and I already miss you my love!
