Some moments are simply unforgettable. 💛

At the base of Niagara Falls, before the world had even begun to wake, Richard Thorpe planned the most beautiful surprise for his love Cassie.

With an absolutely incredible installation by NIAGARA WEDDING DECOR RENTALS, The Fox Music performing her favourite song on violin, Yellow by Coldplay, and the Falls as their backdrop, everything came together perfectly.

These two travelled all the way from the UK to visit family, and they were every bit as wonderful, warm and lovely as you could imagine. Getting to document this chapter for them was an absolute honour.

After a redeye flight, he convinced her that the best time to see Niagara Falls is first thing in the morning before all the crowds arrive. Despite her wearing the cutest little white dress, she had absolutely no idea this was coming and it wasn’t until we were done that she realized he had rented out the entire place to do it. In the most iconic way he got down on one knee and she said YES! 💍💞

Without a doubt, one of my most memorable proposals to date.

Congratulations, Rich & Cassie. What a way to begin forever. 🥂

I GOT TO STALK A COUPLE FOR A PROPOSAL!

Okay, hear me out…

Normally when I photograph a proposal, I have a VERY detailed game plan. I know the exact time, the exact location, where I’m going to hide, what he’s going to do, and approximately 47 backup plans in case something goes wrong.

But this time?

The plan was… no plan.

He sent me a photo of the two of them so I knew what they looked like, and then I basically had to go full-on undercover.

I found them… and then I waited.

And I stalked.

Until he decided: “Okay. THIS is the moment.”

I had absolutely no idea when or where it was going to happen, which was equal parts exciting and nerve-wracking. Every time they stopped somewhere I was like 👀 IS THIS IT?!

And then… he finally made his move.

It was SO much fun getting to capture this one because I genuinely got to experience the anticipation right along with him.

Sometimes the best proposal stories are the ones where the photographer has no idea what’s coming.

“If we could give more than 5 stars, we would. 🤍
Krysta and her whole Loverly team made our wedding day feel effortless, fun, and so incredibly special. Krysta has a gift for making everyone feel comfortable while somehow keeping the energy high all day long. She was our biggest hype woman, making every member of our wedding party feel like a superstar while also creating a relaxed environment where we could just be ourselves. A huge thank you to Kira for making sure we were hydrated, calm, and taken care of throughout the day. Aaron captured all of those tiny, meaningful moments on video that you don’t even realize are happening until you look back on them. And Sarah was so kind, helpful, and supportive every step of the way. The entire team felt less like vendors and more like friends who genuinely cared about making our day unforgettable. They captured every laugh, happy tear, and special moment perfectly. We are so grateful for each of you and would recommend the Loverly team a thousand times over!”

Editorial vs candid wedding photography and why you need to know the difference before you book 👀

Not all wedding photos are created the same and that’s actually a good thing 🤍

One of the biggest differences you’ll notice when looking at photographers is their posing style + editing style.

Some photographers focus on:
✨ natural movement + candid moments
✨ true toned, timeless editing

Others lean more into:
✨ editorial, fashion-inspired posing
✨ softer, moodier, film-style tones

Neither is better. Just different.

But here’s the part most people don’t realize…

👉 Those styles aren’t something we just “switch on” or change after the fact.

The way your photographer shoots, directs, and edits is all connected. It’s a signature style. It’s years of refining how we see and capture a wedding day.

On my website, emails and contract I make sure my clients know what my style is and that what I deliver will be consistent with what they see in my portfolio. It’s so important to me that you don’t hire me just because I have a nice camera, you should hire me because my style resonates with you.

Because the best photos happen when:
✨ you trust the artist you hired
✨ you love their work as-is
✨ you let them do what they do best

For example my approach is very much about:
🤍 natural movement over stiff posing
🤍 guiding you so nothing feels awkward
🤍 capturing real connection, not forced moments
🤍 clean, timeless edits that won’t feel dated in 10 years

And that’s intentional.

If you’re drawn to something more editorial or heavily stylized that’s okay too!

There are incredibly talented photographers who specialize in that.

Because at the end of the day…
👉 you wouldn’t ask your family doctor to perform brain surgery, right? 😅
Same idea here.

The key is:
👉 Don’t try to change the artist choose the one whose work already feels like you.

Because when it aligns…

That’s when the magic happens ✨

I’m curious, are you more drawn to editorial or candid photography? And why? Tell me below 👇

I swear…my couples who say they’re the most awkward?

They always end up with the BEST photos.

Because they’re not trying to “pose” perfectly. They’re just in it, being themselves, listening, and staying present.

Honestly, it’s usually the people who try to pose that end up looking the most stiff and uncomfortable on camera.

And I promise I’m not going to put you into anything awkward and tell you to “just smile” 😅
That’s honestly the worst.

I’ll guide you the whole time with little prompts and movement so it never feels forced.

We’ll walk, chat, laugh, get to know each other and half the time you won’t even realize I’m taking the photo.

That’s where the magic actually happens. 🪄

After 20 years of doing this, I’ve learned that the best photos aren’t the perfectly posed ones, they’re the in-between moments.

When you’re not overthinking it. When you’re just you.

So if you think you’re awkward, you’re actually my type. 👋🏻

And I’ve got you the whole way through 🤍

If you want photos that feel natural and not awkward, we should probably chat.

Be honest, on a scale of 1–10, how awkward are you in front of the camera? 👀
