Today is pretty special. 🄹✨

Today marks 20 YEARS since I shot my very first wedding.

Swipe to see some of those original photos I somehow recovered from my old Facebook uploads… complete with the iconic watermarks and BW selective colour editing style from back in the day. šŸ˜†šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļøšŸ˜‚

What started as photographing my friends’ bands quickly turned into something so much bigger over the last 20 years. I actually got my first wedding gig after shooting album artwork for a musician friend, who then asked if I would photograph his brother’s wedding.

I’m forever grateful to Kate & Aaron for trusting me to capture their wedding day all those years ago and helping ignite not only a passion, but a career that has given me a life and purpose I’m incredibly proud of.

And yes… they are STILL together and going strong today. šŸ„¹ā¤ļø

As a thank you, I’ve offered them a complimentary 20 year anniversary session later this year when they’re back in Ontario.

To the hundreds of couples I’ve photographed along the way, thank you for trusting me with some of the most important moments of your lives. It has truly been one of the greatest honours of my life.

To the incredible photographers, videographers, planners, florists, DJs, caterers, venues, second shooters, assistants, contractors, and creative friends I’ve worked alongside over the years, thank you for being part of this journey.

To my family, thank you for supporting me through the late nights, long wedding days, busy seasons, missed family gatherings, and all the sacrifices that come with building a business around weekends and special moments. Your love and support have meant more than you know. ā¤ļø

And finally, thank YOU to everyone who has supported, shared, referred, and followed along over the years. We absolutely love taking you behind the scenes with us for all the beautiful moments we get to witness.

šŸ„‚Cheers to more years, more memories, more friendships, more laughter, more love… and more ā€œIt’s wedding day!!!ā€ videos! I love you guys šŸ’–

I’ve been hearing some absolutely WILD wedding family drama stories lately… šŸ‘€šŸæ

Overbearing moms. Demanding MILs. Divorced parents who can’t even stand in the same room together. Family members making the wedding about themselves. Surprise guests. Passive aggressive comments. Awkward speeches. Full blown scenes. šŸ’€

Honestly though? Couples always warn me beforehand that their families ā€œdon’t play well togetherā€ and 90% of the time everyone somehow pulls it together and is on their best behaviour for the wedding day.

But I KNOW some of you have stories. šŸ˜‚

So tell me, what’s the most unhinged family dynamic you’ve seen at a wedding?

Did someone wear white?
Try to control the whole wedding?
Get too drunk?
Start drama?
Refuse family photos?
Cause tension between divorced parents?
Make the day about themselves?

I’m ready for the stories. šŸæšŸ‘‡

She thought it was just a cute day at the winery… and then he got down on one knee šŸ˜šŸ’

I shoot proposals at Konzelmann all the time and I swear, every single one still gives me chills. The nerves, the surprise, the ā€œwait…is this actually happening?!ā€ moment, it never gets old.

Ok so I gotta know…

Are you:

šŸ‡ in the vines with a glass of wine
🌊 lakeside with that soft Niagara breeze
🌸 Love Story Garden vibes like T&T
🌊 in front of the Falls going full iconic
šŸ’ hidden ring in the cake moment

or are you ✨extra✨ and want the full setup… florals, candles, champagne, neon ā€œMarry Meā€ sign and all šŸ˜

Big moment or super private?
Sunset glow or middle of the day?
Planned to perfection or totally surprised?

There’s no right way and that’s the best part.

How did your significant other propose? If you’re manifesting your moment (or planning it šŸ‘€), tell me below ā¬‡ļø

I wanna hear your dream proposal… and maybe help you make it happen šŸ’«

Almost a year later and I’m right back in this day šŸ¤

Designing their album this week had me completely reliving every moment… the kind of wedding that just stays with you.

The florals were unreal, the energy was everything, and even a little May rain couldn’t touch the vibe inside The Barn at Cave Spring Vineyard.

One of my all-time favourite venues, one of the sweetest couples, and a party I’d photograph again a hundred times over.

Proof that the best days aren’t about perfect weather… they’re about people, energy, and moments you never want to forget.

Editorial vs candid wedding photography and why you need to know the difference before you book šŸ‘€

Not all wedding photos are created the same and that’s actually a good thing šŸ¤

One of the biggest differences you’ll notice when looking at photographers is their posing style + editing style.

Some photographers focus on:
✨ natural movement + candid moments
✨ true toned, timeless editing

Others lean more into:
✨ editorial, fashion-inspired posing
✨ softer, moodier, film-style tones

Neither is better. Just different.

But here’s the part most people don’t realize…

šŸ‘‰ Those styles aren’t something we just ā€œswitch onā€ or change after the fact.

The way your photographer shoots, directs, and edits is all connected. It’s a signature style. It’s years of refining how we see and capture a wedding day.

On my website, emails and contract I make sure my clients know what my style is and that what I deliver will be consistent with what they see in my portfolio. It’s so important to me that you don’t hire me just because I have a nice camera, you should hire me because my style resonates with you.

Because the best photos happen when:
✨ you trust the artist you hired
✨ you love their work as-is
✨ you let them do what they do best

For example my approach is very much about:
šŸ¤ natural movement over stiff posing
šŸ¤ guiding you so nothing feels awkward
šŸ¤ capturing real connection, not forced moments
šŸ¤ clean, timeless edits that won’t feel dated in 10 years

And that’s intentional.

If you’re drawn to something more editorial or heavily stylized that’s okay too!

There are incredibly talented photographers who specialize in that.

Because at the end of the day…
šŸ‘‰ you wouldn’t ask your family doctor to perform brain surgery, right? šŸ˜…
Same idea here.

The key is:
šŸ‘‰ Don’t try to change the artist choose the one whose work already feels like you.

Because when it aligns…

That’s when the magic happens ✨

I’m curious, are you more drawn to editorial or candid photography? And why? Tell me below šŸ‘‡

The sweet review in full 🄰

I hired Krysta to shoot my wedding day and from the very beginning she was so easy to work with! I approached her with a budget in mind and we were able to work something out that worked perfectly for the both of us.

Leading up to my wedding day she was available for calls as we ironed out the important details and I was able to provide info through her really helpful online portal. Day of could not have gone better. Krysta is such an amazing, lovely person to work with.

She kept everyone laughing and knew how to get everyone feeling good to turn good photos. The photos I’ve already gotten back and I’m so so so happy with them. I told her that photos of my big day was one of my top priorities and she absolutely delivered!

The team she had with her including videographer were also so great to work with, and my wedding snapshot video is exactly everything I could have hoped for.

I would absolutely recommend Krysta and team, hands down, and I hope I can find an excuse to work with her again in the future!ā€

I swear…my couples who say they’re the most awkward?

They always end up with the BEST photos.

Because they’re not trying to ā€œposeā€ perfectly. They’re just in it, being themselves, listening, and staying present.

Honestly, it’s usually the people who try to pose that end up looking the most stiff and uncomfortable on camera.

And I promise I’m not going to put you into anything awkward and tell you to ā€œjust smileā€ šŸ˜…
That’s honestly the worst.

I’ll guide you the whole time with little prompts and movement so it never feels forced.

We’ll walk, chat, laugh, get to know each other and half the time you won’t even realize I’m taking the photo.

That’s where the magic actually happens. šŸŖ„

After 20 years of doing this, I’ve learned that the best photos aren’t the perfectly posed ones, they’re the in-between moments.

When you’re not overthinking it. When you’re just you.

So if you think you’re awkward, you’re actually my type. šŸ‘‹šŸ»

And I’ve got you the whole way through šŸ¤

If you want photos that feel natural and not awkward, we should probably chat.

Be honest, on a scale of 1–10, how awkward are you in front of the camera? šŸ‘€

I’ve been sitting on this for a while.

Honestly… longer than I’d like to admit.

Over the past year, I’ve had a lot of time to reflect on what I’m doing, why I’m doing it, and what actually lights me up anymore. And if I’m being really real with you… I’ve had moments where I’ve questioned everything.

Photography has been my entire world for nearly 20 years. It’s given me a career I never could’ve dreamed of, introduced me to the most incredible couples, and let me be part of moments that still give me chills when I think about them. I’ve built my life around this industry.

And that’s what makes this so hard to say.

Because even though I’ve loved it deeply… I’ve started to feel a shift.

A pull toward something different. Something that still keeps me close to weddings, but allows me to show up in a new way. A way that feels a little more aligned with where I’m at in life right now.

So after a lot of late nights, a lot of conversations, and a lot of going back and forth…

I’ve decided it’s time for a change.

I’m so excited (and honestly a little nervous) to share that Loverly Weddings will now be offering full wedding planning and day-of coordination services.

Being able to support my couples beyond just the photos… to help guide the entire day, be in their corner from start to finish, and take that stress off their shoulders… it just feels right.

I’m really stepping into this next chapter with a full heart, and I cannot wait to serve my couples in this new way šŸ¤

JK…..I could NEVER! APRIL FOOLS!!

Planners are a whole other breed of human who EVERY couple and photographer needs! PS- hire a planner for your wedding day! šŸ˜‰
