Some engagement sessions just feel great. I was able to go back to a spot I hadn’t been to in a long time, but it’s an old favourite. It was great just feeling not hurried and being able to take our time and have a good conversation while we documented this time before their wedding.

So many couples tell me they’re awkward in front of the camera. That’s exactly what the engagement session is for. A little guidance, some laughing at the awkward stuff, and by the time I show you the back of the camera you realize you actually look incredible.

It rained all day.

Genuinely poured. The kind of weather that makes you question every outdoor plan you ever made.

But Michelle & Matt had a backup so you’d never know anything was different.

We got ready at The Drake. Did portraits in a studio. Ended the night at Twist Gallery with a dance floor that did not stop.

The rain never touched the mood. Thank you for the incredible day you two.

Sometimes plan A doesn’t work… or plan B, ha.

So grateful for Sam and Seb and how flexible and easy-going they were on their wedding day. The rain ended up holding off just in time and we got some beautiful portraits with the spring blooms in full season.

Some thoughts on wedding photographers using AI to edit their photos.

Piano Piano. Closest friends. Closest family. That was the whole vibe. It set the tone for the whole weekend.

This feels like a good wedding to start the year off with. This year I want to lean even more into capturing photos that feel like you, and bring you back to your day every time you look at them. I cannot wait for every wedding this year.

325 weddings in, and the thing I keep coming back to is that the couples who walk away obsessed with their photos all say the same thing.

“It looks exactly like how it felt.”
That doesn’t happen by accident. It happens because someone was paying attention. Reading the room. Noticing the way you look at each other when you think no one’s watching. Knowing when to step in and when to disappear.

I’ve spent 12 years learning how to make people forget I’m there. How to listen more than I direct. How to make you feel comfortable enough that what shows up in your gallery is actually you.
Not a version of you that was trying to look good for the camera.

This way, when you open that gallery, it takes you straight back to how the day felt. That’s what I’m here for.

Twelve years in, this is the biggest thing I’ve learned as a wedding photographer: shut up and listen.

For someone who loves conversation, that’s hard.

But here’s what happens when you actually listen on a wedding day. You can see how people are doing. And then serve them how they want to be served.

Walk in during getting ready. Is it somber? Maybe anxious? Maybe we need to help everyone feel calm.

Or is there a party happening? Maybe we need to join in and get everyone pumped up.

The whole point of hiring me is that I can read how you’re doing throughout your day. Help you figure out what’s important. Help you stay present and experience it all.

That’s how you get photos you’ll actually want to relive. Not just the milestones. Every single moment that mattered.

The real skill of being a wedding photographer isn’t actually taking photos. It’s curation.

Can you tell the story of the couple you’re photographing?

If you’re getting married, that’s what you need to be asking yourself. Can my photographer tell our story?

Of course, every wedding has getting ready, the ceremony, reception. Those are the natural sequence of events.

But it’s all those in-between moments. Are they noticing what’s going on? Are they able to document this beautiful narrative that pieces together who you are as a couple?

The core moments everyone expects plus the in-between moments that tell your actual story.

When you’re looking for a photographer, find someone who knows how to curate the story of your day.

Most photographers are waiting for the next pose.

I’m watching the room.

Who keeps pulling the bride in for one more hug. Which grandparent is tearing up in the corner. What’s about to happen before it happens.

That’s how you get the photos you’ll look back at every week and say “oh my gosh, remember that moment?”

Not because they were planned. Because someone was paying attention.

Thank you & for the incredibly kind words.
