For the last (I don’t know how many now) years, I’ve been too afraid to express my thoughts, opinions and authentic self because social media is a scary, mean and dividing place… Especially here.
But what I’ve come to realize and grow through, is that no matter what people hate on, or don’t take the time to understand… is not my problem, nor should I have let it be. But hey.. that’s how we learn and grow.
As a recovering people-pleaser, I am taking a challenge to just show up— however is the most authentic to who I am, and if anybody has an issue with this… Well, that’s not for me to worry about anymore!
Here are some things you should know if you want to stick around on my feed:
- I am q***r. Proudly LGBTQIA+ 🏳️🌈 And yes, I think people are allowed to be “sensitive” about being respected as a human being.
- I don’t stand for bigotry of ANY kind.
- I am not interested in conforming to societal norms to keep people from feeling uncomfortable.
- I am cringey at heart, and I love that about me. (You should try it 😉)
- There is nuance to everything, and you can most likely find common ground with anyone as long as you know how to have a respectful conversation and seek to understand why someone might have their own perspective.
- I am neurodivergent… this also means I am deeply sensitive and in touch with my emotions, and I think it’s a beautiful thing to be able to experience the full capacity of human emotion.
- I am no longer “Christian” because of MY personal experience, and I do believe that we come from a higher consciousness (God, the universe, collective energy, whatever you want to call it). But if you don’t— there’s NOTHING wrong with that. Your relationship to your spirituality is YOURS, and nobody should be able to tell you what’s right for your own personal journey through life.
- I’ve always appeared to “fit in” on the outside, but I’ve never truly felt it on the inside. I’ve always just wanted to feel a true sense of belonging, and through my beautiful friendships and deep connections, I have found it; even if I don’t get to see those people every day.
- I believe that art is indescribably valuable to the world. It’s what creates change, brings new ideas and perspectives to the table, and helps people think and grow outside of the boxes that society puts us in.
There purpose of this post is to free myself from the things I’ve been too afraid to say. I see new hateful opinions when I open this app every day, and it’s just getting old.
“Be the change you want to see in the world” - Gandhi
Here’s to a phase of shamelessly showing up as I am. I hope you feel empowered to do the same. ❤️🌈✨
