After a while, I finally carried my camera to see what crossed my way — and it didn’t disappoint. A lifer for me: my first ever Pine Grosbeaks, both male and female, right on the road home from Moncton. March 15 turned into an unforgettable day behind the camera.

Today is World Shorebirds Day!
These little birds are semipalmated plovers.
Every year, they fly thousands of kilometers from North America to South America to escape the cold.
Like many other shorebirds, they travel mostly at night and stop to rest and eat along the way.
From Canada to Brazil, semipalmated plovers rely on safe stopover sites like Panama Bay and Colombia’s coastal lagoons to survive their journey.
From mid August to early September is the time they begin their long journey south.
Let’s protect their habitats so they can keep making this amazing trip!
Despite their size, semipalmated plovers can fly over 4,000 km without a map!
