I took a couple days on the front end of my work in to tour and capture photos to turn into artworks.
I went up to Sunset Boulevard for breakfast and found the perfect spot at to relax and make some art. Anyway, long story short, the servers at State Social House (TK, PJ, and Kirin) were awesome - so I snapped a shot of them and made that the artwork for the day.
What REALLY made the breakfast complete, was when I ordered a Ceasar… the wait staff were surprised, and also curious if I was Canadian. Turns out there was a Canadian bartender in the cigar lounge, Jonzy. And Jonzy had just recently taught all the Americans what Caesar’s are in honour of the recent Olympic Gold medal game where the Canadians outshot the American’s but had a heartbreaking loss in overtime. If you ever want to see a bunch of dejected grown men trying, and failing miserably, to appear grateful - check out the closing ceremonies when the Canadian hockey players receive the cheerful Italian mascot plushies (Tina and Milo). It’s a great study in conflicting raw emotions seen in the body language and facial expressions of the players - especially if you’re an animator. Anyway… if you’re Canadian, and enjoy Caesars, and want a little piece of home when you’re in LA… drop by State and get a Ceasar, they’re on the drink menu now.
So after I finished my breakfast and artwork. I popped down to the Cigar lounge to meet Jonzy, the mythic Canadian who had introduced everyone to Ceasars. We had a quick chat and then he graciously let me snap a shot of him to turn into a piece of artwork as well.
***This has definitely been my best trip down to LA yet. Shout out to TK, PJ, and Kirin for being awesome. If you’re in LA, check out State Social House on Sunset Blvd for Ceasars (and great staff).
