Cooper’s Hawk 🪶
Sticking close to their nest, they keep watch 👀
They’re great forest hunters, often spotted eating small birds. If you saw my last Cooper’s hawk post, you’d know they don’t leave much behind 😂

White-breasted Nuthatch! 🐦
One last nuthatch photo for the season, then we’re onto bigger things. And by bigger, I mean sometimes slightly smaller, physically. It’s complicated, but you’ll see eventually.

What have I been up to? 👀
Funny you should ask... I’ve just been birding. 📸
Since April, I’ve managed to get out 35 of the last 56 days. I’ve shot roughly 100,000 photos, ending up with about 160 final images that I’m actually happy with. If you’ve shot warblers, you get it.
Never-ending rain, heavy fog, tornado-producing thunderstorms, and excessive wind all tried to keep me inside. But to make up for lost time, I just started doubling down by doing both early mornings and late evenings.
Why? Because I’m insane. 🤪
Actually, that’s just when the birds are active. So instead of sleeping in on the weekends, I was out there as early as 5:00 AM just to track them down. 😴
If you watched closely, you might have spotted a few non-bird figures in the mix. They were included solely because they rudely interrupted my birding activities, so they got added to the reel anyway.
How many did you spot? 👇🏼

Yellow-rumped Warbler 🐤
This is it, the first warbler photo of the season. Trust me when I say there’s a lot more to come! 👀
I’ve been very busy for the last 2 months.. shooting warblers.
It’s been A LOT of staring into the sky.
Also there’s been a lot of people passing by asking “what are you looking at?” … in that moment you need to decide whether you try to describe the exact branch you’re looking at in a sea of one million identical branches …
OR
if you just say “oh me? Nothing, just a little bird”
There just isn’t enough time to explain the various plumages, subspecies, or significance of the bird and get a decent shot of it . Once I start talking, there may be no stopping me. So maybe I’m doing them a service by not trying to point out the bird? 😂

Captured the loon just as its face broke the surface of the water. I’ve been bobbing for apples before, this guy didn’t come back with any apples. Clearly it sucks at this game.😉

Got a nice close-up shot of a tree swallow while it was perched on a tree!
Again, these birds are hard to shoot because of their dark blue colours. I intentionally over-exposed this image so that I could get better details on the bird. Luckily, its white breast wasn’t showing, otherwise it would have been an extreme white colour that had no details remaining.

Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher!🐦
These tiny birds are gnat easy to capture!😉
You usually hear their call first before you ever see them. Then once you narrow it down to 2-3 trees, it becomes a game of trying to find this 4-inch bird in the right tree and find a clear shot.
They don’t make it easy, but they’re pretty cute and they have some CRAZY eyebrows.😂
