From as far back as I can remember, my mom & dad made me toys & other great works. My dad was also an avid photographer--in fact most of my family is because of him! My parents never seemed to be happier as when they were creating--which bring me some of my fondest memorie

s of them, and for these, I am very lucky. My husband and I are extremely lucky in other ways as well--we have two beautiful sons (beautiful both inside and out) who warm our hearts and make us smile and laugh every day. They were once orphans from Africa. So as a tribute to my mom and dad (nicknamed "Babs" & "Coconut"), and for the little ones who have not found their "forever" families, I created these one-woman cottage industries; Babs & Coco, and Babs & Coco Photography—with their profits going to orphans in Africa. My parents are now deceased, but when I'm sewing a doll, making a wooden surfboard, or taking a picture that someone will cherish, I hope that my mom and dad have twinkles in their eyes and grins on their faces. Depuis mes plus vieux souvenirs, mon père et ma mère fabriquaient des jouets et d’autres magnifiques projets d’arts plastiques, et mon père prenait des photos superbe. La plupart de ma famille prend BEAUCOUP de photo grâce à son influence. Les moments les plus heureux de mon père et mère étaient quand ils avaient en main, du bois, de la laine et du tissu, ou un camera. Leurs créations me donnent de précieux souvenirs de mes parents et de mon enfance. Mon mari et moi sommes très gâtés par la vie de bien des façons aussi. Nous avons deux garçons, qui remplissent nos cœurs et notre vie, de bonheur, de joie et de sourires. Ils étaient (avant notre famille) des orphelins de l’Afrique. Alors, pour rendre hommage à mes deux parents, que nous surnommions « Babs et Coconut », ainsi qu’à tous les orphelins du monde, qui n’ont toujours pas trouvé leur famille pour la vie, j’ai crée ces deux compagnies. Leurs profits vont aux orphelins en Afrique. Mes parents ne sont plus là, mais chaque fois que je crée une poupée de chiffon, une planche de surf, ou un photographe, j’espère qu’ils ont des étoiles dans les yeux et des grands sourires en me regardant faire. C’est avec beaucoup de tristesse que Dans la rue annonce le décès de son fondateur, le père Emmett Johns, mieux connu sous le nom de « Pops ». Pops est décédé le 13 janvier 2018, à l’âge de 89 ans. C’est à 60 ans et après 40 années passées comme curé dans différentes paroisses que le Père Johns a décidé, en 1988, de tendre la main aux jeunes sans-abri de Montréal pour leur apporter aide, écoute et réconfort.

La mission de Dans la rue demeure profondément ancrée dans les valeurs de dévouement, empathie et respect, si chères à Pops. Son héritage, celui d'un accueil inconditionnel des jeunes en difficulté, continuera de nous inspirer à Dans la rue pour poursuivre son oeuvre essentielle.

« Quand je pense à mes premières soirées sur la roulotte, je me dis que jamais je n'aurais pu imaginer que Dans la rue devienne l'organisation d'importance qu'elle est aujourd'hui... On a eu un impact positif sur la vie de dizaines de milliers de jeunes - et on continue d'en aider plus encore, jour après jour. » - Père Emmett Johns, "Pops"

Dans la rue is deeply saddened to announce the passing of the organization’s founder, Father Emmett Johns, fondly known as “Pops,” on January 13th, 2018. He was ­­89.

In 1988, at the age of 60 and after decades serving as a parish priest, Father Johns felt called to reach out to Montreal’s homeless youth. He took to the streets in a used motorhome, offering warm food and a sympathetic ear to hundreds of street youth.

Dans la rue’s mission remains strongly rooted in Pops’ philosophy of dedication, empathy, and respect. His enduring legacy is one of acceptance without judgement and this legacy will continue to inspire and to guide the staff and volunteers at Dans la rue as they carry on his important work.

"When I think back to the first nights I spent on the Van, never could I have imagined that Dans la rue would be what it is today… We have had an impact on tens of thousands of young lives - and we continue to reach out to more and more every day." - Father Emmett Johns, "Pops"

In 2016, the UN Human Development Index* ranked Niger 187 out of 188 countries worldwide...

Did you know that for the price of your morning “on-the-go” “wake-me-up” latte, cappuccino, flat white,
..You could feed over 10 bottles to orphans in Niger?

Or for a fraction of the price of that bottle of wine or bubbles you bought, or movie you just saw,
..You could buy 30+ bars of soap for Nigérien orphans?

Or for simply 50 cents,
..you could make sure a motherless Nigerien child doesn’t have to cry in a wet diaper for hours?

As I do throughout the year with profits from Babs & Coco and Babs & Coco Photography, I give to kids in need:

1) orphans from Niger via...
a) LEDM—a tiny organization (that does not incur profits) which connected me with my two boys, once orphans themselves; and
b) SOS Village Niger; as well as
2) the Montreal Childrens Hospital (which has helped my kids, and so many others, so much).

So, if today you’re not up to buying a doll, an ornament or a picture, may I ask you to give a bit to those in need...
I will be more than happy to help ease the process, and will collect and donate to these organizations for you.

Ou pour une fraction du prix de cette bouteille de vin ou des bulles que vous avez achetées, ou du film que vous venez de voir,.. Vous pourriez acheter 30+ barres de savon pour les orphelins Nigériens?
Ou pour simplement 50 cents,.. vous pourriez vous assurer qu'un enfant nigérien sans mère n'a pas à pleurer dans une couche mouillée pendant des heures?
Comme je le fais tout au long de l'année avec les bénéfices de Babs & Coco et Babs & Coco Photography, je donne aux enfants dans le besoin:

a) LEDM - une organisation minuscule (pas pour les profits) qui m'a connecté avec mes deux garçons, eux-mêmes orphelins, il y a longtemps, et
b) SOS Village Niger; aussi bien que
2) l'Hôpital pour enfants de Montréal (qui a tellement aidé mes enfants et tant d'autres).
Donc, si aujourd'hui vous n'êtes pas prêt à acheter une poupée, un ornement ou une photo, puis-je vous demander de donner un peu à ceux qui en ont besoin ...
Je serai plus qu'heureux d'aider à faciliter le processus, et de recueillir et de faire un don à ces organisations pour vous.
