Last week's post was not a pine siskin. Sorry. It was a song sparrow. Here is a close up of a song sparrow with a sunflower seed.

Nikon Z6iii, 180-600 lens @ 600mm, f/8, 1/500s, ISO-1600, exp. bias 0, tripod.

Processed from 14-bit raw with Nikon NX Studio, heavily cropped, minor sharpening and denoising with Topaz, watermarks added with Photoshop Elements. NOT upscaled.

The pine siskins are back to sothern Canada. Saw several today. This one was rooting around under the leaf mulch in the garden and looks like it has found something worth grabbing. Edible? I don't know.

Nikon Z6iii , 180-600 @ 600, f/8, 1/400s, ISO-1600, 0 exp. bias, tripod. The bird recognition works, and it found the eye quickly.

Processed from raw with NX Studio, cropped in Photoshop Elements, sharpened a little in Topaz, watermarks added in Elements.

Sheep Creek, near Salmo, British Columbia.

Another landscape with, um, questionable composition. Where does the eye go? Where should it go? What's the point? Go ahead, tear it apart!

NZ6iii, 24-200 @ 41mm, f/11, 1/15s, ISO-100, 0 exp. bias, matrix metering, hand-held.

Processed from raw with NX Studio, slight crop and watermarks added in Photoshop Elements. Resolution reduced for FB.

An attempt at minimalism.

Nikon Z6iii, 24-200 @ 165mm, f/6.3, ISO-100, 1/100s, 0 exp. bias, hand held.

Processed from raw with NX Studio, heavily cropped (currently don't own a macro lens - will get one soon, I hope), sharpened and unsharp mask added. Background cleaned up and watermarks added with Photoshop Elements. Most of the background was black from the original composition, but I needed to remove a few distractions in one corner.

Spooky Western Larch.

Western Larch is a deciduous needle-bearing tree. It looks kind of spooky in the winter even without help. I processed this one from raw in NX Studio to make it look a little darker and spookier. I used haze reduction in an attempt to bring out what little texture was in the clouds, which were mostly pretty formless. It was a very cloudy misty day. No extra sharpening, no messing with colors (color? What color??). The main thing involved experimenting with the tone curve a little.

Nikon Z6iii, Nikkor 24-200 @ 74mm, f/8, 1/160s, ISO-800, exp. bias 0, matrix metering, hand held.

Wade in the water

Z6iii, 180-600 @ 600mm, 1/640s, f/7.1, ISO-4000, Exp. bias 0, spot metering, tripod.

Processed from raw with NX Studio, cropped heavily (too far away - maybe I should have passed on the picture), sharpened, denoised and upscaled with Topaz, cropped some more with Photoshop Elements, added watermarks.

Not my best effort. Someone can (and probably will) say I shouldn't have posted it. Too much cropping, too much detail lost, too many artifacts, background too busy, etc.

My wife Susan and I have a few prints on display at Woodland Hillside in Trail. This picture (taken with a phone) shows me with Melissa, one of the owners of Woodland Hillside.

Prints on several different media are on display. They include canvas, acrylic, metal and gallery board. Most prints are framed and ready to hang. One 12x24 framed canvas of a bald eagle in flight is on sale for only $125!

5x7 folded greeting cards (blank inside) and 8x10 satin prints ready to mount and frame are also for sale.

Woodland Hillside has a large number of beautiful rescued wood products made from fallen wood and standing dead wood. Items range for gorgeous pieces of handcrafted furniture to official BC Winter Games keepsakes.

Woodland Hillside is in Trail right across the street from TD Bank and next to the A&W.

Parallel tracks in Powder Keg at Whitewater.

Close examination (click on the image, and then click on the + sign in the upper right) will show the sluff that buried the upper ends of the tracks after they were made. Also, for scale, there are two skiers/riders visible on the right between the tracks and the boot pack line up about 1/3 of the way up from the bottom of the picture. They are standing on the Catch Basin ski way cat track. The size of the skiers suggests it is a very good thing the sluff didn't occur while whoever made the tracks was near the top under the cliff.

Nikon Z6iii, Nikkor 24-200 f/4-6.3 @ 200mm, f/11, 1/640s, ISO-200, 0 exp. bias.

Raw file processed with Nikon NX Studio and exported to jpeg. Cropped and watermarks added with Photoshop Elements. Resolution reduced to reduce file size for online use.
