I think i may have mentioned my penchant for Greek Mythology. It started with this one book, simply titled, Greek Mythology. It was a hard cover, white and gold and black, beautifully illustrated. My parents had a pretty good book shelf, it was fairly eclectic and broad in scope. Blessed for that, grateful, those formative years spent soaking up stories, myth, fantasy, fiction, facts about the world i was born into. It does not come into focus overnight and much remains obscured by clouds, as one spends moments absorbing, integrating, focusing and forming and refining one’s vision. The Iliad. I once had the most beautiful copy of it, illustrated by William Blake, a great master poet and painter. Goya, tangent, the later work of Goya, truly insane and brilliant work, dark AF but somehow went with the heavy metal i was listening to in my tween to early teen years. Those were years of rapid and tortuous growth, expansions and contractions. Searching, always searching for that je ne sais quoi, i didn’t know what i was searching for, truth, common denominators revealing deep truths.
Anyway…up early, sipping espresso, headed to sports complex soon, feeling creative and energetic, concerned about global geo-political events beyond my control, for now i let that go, for the sake of sanity, self-therapy, physical meditation with lifting, dance, music of course, i need that daily or i don’t feel that I’m on an even keel.
Playing with this image we shot in Balboa park, SanDiego. It was pretty early park almost deserted, incredible neocolonial architecture, piazza, romantic, daliesque flat ground, clear bright sunlight. A woman waiting for the coffee can to open we were, asked me what i was doing. I explained that i was a travelling multimedia artist from Canada on a road trip, shooting for a book and video series i had conceived and written, work in progress at the time. She said she was a member of a photography club and they had hired models for 10 am and that i was welcome to join them. Of course i accepted gratefully and tagged along with them. Some of the images are exquisite, high contrast light inside the courtyard of an old temple of some sort.
