CLAYDON, SASKATCHEWAN is the definition of the Little Red Train that couldn't. Established in 1917, it was a town that never became of anything substantial. At one point there was grocery store that was stuffed with lots of merchandise and a Canada Post outlet that was hidden in the corner of the store. There was a school at one point, along with a community hall and baseball diamonds. Today, they are all collecting dust.

WOOD MOUNTAIN, SASKATCHEWAN first European settlers came in the 1870's, when about 35 Metis families moved here after the failure of the Red River Rebellion. Wood Mountain is a peaceful area, but during the days of Sitting Bull and James Walsh (Northwest Mounted Police) this was one of the most politically volatile spots in North America. The famous Sioux medicine man Sitting Bull and as many as 5000 of his Sioux (Lakota) followers took refuge here from the U.S. Army after the battle of the Little Bighorn in 1876. Even though Sitting Bull returned to the USA when his people were starving and was later killed in an uprising in 1890, Wood Mountain's 37 founding families remained in Canada. Wood Mountain was the terminus of the Fort Ellice-Wood Mountain Trail that was used from 1757 to the 1850s to haul provisions such as pemmican by the Métis and First Nations. There is a monument of Sitting Bull on top of a hill in the regional park. Today only less than 20 residents remain in the village and 305 First Nations residents remain on the Wood Mountain Lakota First Nation Reserve which is located outside of the Wood Mountain village.

COLGATE, SASKATCHEWAN was originally called Bellville, Saskatchewan until the Canadian National Railway renamed the village when it completed the line connecting the village to the rest of settled Canada in 1911. By 1921 Colgate had 2 schools, a post office, a grain elevator, a hardware store and a grocery store. By the 1980's Colgate's population started a hard decline, and by the 1990's the population dropped to 30 individuals. In 2021 the flame was being kept alive by 2 houses.

ARLEE, SASKATCHEWAN was founded by two different religious groups, the Russian Doukhobor and Russian Mennonites fleeing Russian Tsarism due to mandatory military service in 1897. There were few dwellings at first, purchasing land from the Hudson Bay Company to start farming. Times were tough at the beginning, breaking new land using only horse power and building homes using logs with bare hands and minimal tools. In 1903 the then well known Russian family the Antyufeev's, a family of 10 made their fleeing escape from Russia through Turkey which was the Ottoman Empire at that time through Italy to Canada. During their sail at sea their two youngest daughters died of diphtheria. Once in Canada they migrated to Arlee, and the village was officially formed. All that remains today is a couple residents. The Mennonite Brethren Church and Ukrainian Orthodox Church remain empty shells and the hotel that was once built is completely falling apart.

ADMIRAL, SASKATCHEWAN is a special service area located in the southwest region of Saskatchewan. It was founded in 1914 as part of the Canadian Pacific Railway line, named after military rankings. Many of the earlier settlers of Admiral were of Swedish origins. The village peaked at 250 residents by the 1920's, but the Great Depression took its toll and many of the residents left for bigger centers. For years and years the population kept dwindling in the Admiral village, then in 2006 the post office, the church, the welding and repair shop, the K-7 school and the Svensen Toboggan Company shut their doors for good. Shortly afterwards the town relinquished it's status and became an official ghost town.

ERNFOLD, SASKATCHEWAN is a incorporated village that was founded in December of 1912. During its peak years the population was a healthy number of around 300 residents, where today only 15 souls remain to keep the memories alive. During it's history Ernfold has had a red brick school, which is now recognized by the Government of Canada as a historic site, a catholic and baptist churches, a graveyard, a hockey rink, a Lion's Club, a post office, machine shop and grocery store. Now with the constant population decline and only 15 residents the town has had to become 100% self sufficient. Monitor their own water supply with manually adding chemicals to make it potable, fixing their own roads, cutting the grass around town, fixing burnt out street lights. No children live here, so it's just a matter of time before we all kiss Ernfold goodnight.

KRYDOR, SASKATCHEWAN is a Ukrainian settlement founded in 1905, and officially incorporated as a village in 1914. The Ukrainians who immigrated here were promised free homesteads within the community, and up to 160 acres of land outside of Krydor for farming purposes. Krydor during its peak time had 2 Saskatchewan Wheat Pool elevators and a Federal grain elevator, post office, a cafe, hardware store, hotel, school and a Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Krydor never really had a huge population, but in 1981 the population was 73 occupants. Today, there are only 14 occupants remaining, a decline of 81%. All the businesses and schools have shuttered their doors, and it is only a matter of time before you will be able to hear the constant sound of crickets in the streets of Krydor.

ORKNEY, SASKATCHEWAN was founded in 1924 when the Canadian Pacific Railway completed its train line to Val Marie. It became a incorporated village in 1928. The village itself resides 15 kilometers away from the Canada/United States border. The village got its name from Orkney, Scotland from a local MP by the name of George Spence. During it's peak times, Orkney had two grocery stores, grain elevator, butcher shop, hardware store, pharmacy, hotel, barbershop, bank, school, lumber yard, post office, fire hall and St. Mary's Anglican Church to which all were constructed between 1924 - 1927. Orkney today is listed as a designated place by Statistics Canada, with zero population. The only life signs you see going through this town are the members of the Sand Lake Hutterite Colony which is located 10 minutes outside of this abandoned village.
