Back shooting space

Okay, it was a MESS before, but that's not the point. Once again, the walls were plastered with thick layers of paint over everything. This time the colour wasn't so bad, but it still needed rescue. I don't love the style or colour of the built-in cupboards, but I have big dreams for the organization of that wall, and this will have to do in the meantime.

The hallway

I don't have a great 'before' photo of this area, so a screengrab from a video will have to do. See how stark of a difference in colour there is! I would say this wall was by far the most tedious, with all the doors and windows, and the jut-in for bathroom. And while I do claim the sweat and love that went into 95% of the studio as a whole, I was so thankful to have the most help with this one. The room behind the AJP door will be an office for myself, which still needs work.

Front entry with mini fridge

I'm not exactly sure why the door windows were covered like this - some type of bronze coloured vinyl, which was then painted over and smudged/touched while wet. It didn't look great from the outside, but looked even worse from the inside when the sun shone in. It was pretty important for me to switch it up to a blackout static cling, not only to block more light, but also to clean up the look. It's so much more welcoming now 🥰

Cozy sitting room

This room was small, but mighty. The original paint job was sloppy, and done overtop of anything mounted on the wall. This required much sanding, spackling, and attempting to even out the walls. I’ll admit it’s still not perfect, but a heck of a lot better!

Wooden backdrop

My double-sided barnwood backdrop is an important staple in almost all of my studio sessions, but I was lacking a solid wall to lean it against. Not having a purpose for these windows in the middle of the room made this the perfect choice, but it didn’t come with it’s own challenges. I started with leaning some corrugated plastic against the windows to create a flatter surface, but this created too much leaning over time. Got me some lumber to mount across the windows, added my curtains, and voila!

Main shooting space

When I first moved in, the very first wall to paint was the largest rust-coloured one. Not only was it (personally) an eye-sore, but had I kept it, my clients would maintain a solid orange tan on one side of their faces! Then came hanging my backdrop roller system, and covering the windows to polish up the main shooting space 🩶
