Far and beyond
Lies a world of opportunity
Not solely for materialistic gain
But for the expansion of the mind
Re-generation of the soul
Or just the chance made by choice
To sit in the stillness
Of all that surrounds
In quiet contemplation and reflection
Thank you for just being here
In a place of constant transformation
And unlimited blessings
Some of which presented
In periodic clouds of despair
Meant to challenge my resolve
Not enough to hide the light of hope
There for the seeking eye go I.

The Flower Moon brightens the night
Celebrating new growth
And the arrival of our summer weather
How blessed to have been awakened
During the midnight hours
To bear witness to an energy
That for long
The object of humanities desire
Comfortable I am to simply stand
In this place of creation
Void of the rockets roar
Surrounded only by the silence of the night
In appreciation for all I have received
Thankful always for all
Our universe provides.

My outlook on life
Varies between the rise
And the setting of the sun
The outline of which changes little
Mornings come to life
With aspirations related to daily life
Evenings much like the setting sun across the water
A time of reflection
Embraced in appreciation
For yet another day of wonder and gratitude
Forgetting the daily feed
Of tragedy and conflict
Forever a part of our human journey
Not all in my world is perfection
As if it were so
There would not be that benchmark
Upon which to be thankful
For the beauty that surrounds
The opportunity to just be
Chance for choice and commitment
To be the best me I can be.

Temperature predictions to hit 30 and above so I was looking for a little perspective. Early morning view from our porch in Anglemont.
Still going to enjoy our summer heat.

Much like life rushing me by
Spring fed water spilling over itself
In order to get to that place
The final destination
Along the way some get trapped in wayward pools
Sit too long in one spot in the sun
A process we call evaporation
Returns these droplets to the heavens
To be given a chance for another go
A life giving and life sustaining experience
To the benefit of us observers
Much like the setting sun
Essential as well to our existence
Also of a cyclical returning nature
While I the participant
Come to grips with the reality
Of that which is within my control
The eventual acceptance of just being
Taking my rest during the period of dark
Adjusting to the flow of my surroundings
Thankful as always for the time given
Grateful for the opportunity
To be an observant participant
In this experience we call living.

To be on top of the world
I need not be standing on the peak
Witnessing the clear blue albeit frigid sky
Showcasing the tallest peak in our Rockies
Has me in awe of the greatness
Surrounding me each day
The road to success and scaling heights
Not the draw it once was
Years of wear have softened
The roughness of the earlier tight spots
So often the reality of an adventurer
That has shown a preference for difficult terrain
And too many walks along the edge
Content now for my existence
On the slope of a much gentler climb
Enjoying the slower pace peace and quiet
Afforded to us by our own ambition
And the guidance of a higher power
Having reach the point of acceptance
Not to be equated with resignation of the spirit
But of one who is home
Blessed and grateful for all bestowed.

Reminds of the first time
I stepped out into the big world
A minor interuption
In what presented as a broad horizon
Not much has changed
Or a lot has changed
Landscape very much as it has been
The boat in the water
Like much of the things in my life
No longer a presence
As one might suspect
From the rotational nature of our existence
All around me is constant change
Presenting some of the earliest challenges
Until the realization period hits
I am the constant in the midst of all
And I too have managed to navigate my way home
Ironically reminiscent of my beginnings
Content now to appreciate the image
In a quiet contemplative manner
Remembering the trips and falls on the way here
But very much healed and enjoying life.

Footnote: had what seems like my millionth colonoscopy yesterday and I know we don’t talk about these things but we should. My first colonoscopy 36+ years ago changed the course of my life. Grateful to be here with the ones I love.

Along the rocky shores
A tale of a journey
Spanning the minutes taken
To absorb this scene
A glimpse of appreciation
A smile at the end of a clouded existence
Many are the challenges experienced by all
Seemingly stumbling over riverbed rock
Wary of overhead distractions
Like myself on some days
Leaning a little too much on self awareness
Less on the faith of experience
And purpose of a simple human existence
In an increasingly crowded place
Dominated by busyness and scratching for more
Easy it is to forget
The light sought by many
Is with us somewhere all the time
Reminding myself often
Raise my eyes towards the sky
Accept the reality of my discovered place
Believe in the presence of my higher power
Open my arms to the
Welcoming rays of the setting sun
Reflecting across the water common to us all.

It is rare I have asked
How far away the night
The glimmer of hope
Arriving daily with the rising sun
Sets the tone of expectation for the day
Big goals no goals
Another experience in our circular journey
Towards a future
Patterned and executed on a path
Of two steps forward and depending on perspective
As many or more back
Of the darkness and the night well hidden
A time of rest with eyelids closed
And hopefully the mind cleared
Body at ease and recuperating
Ready and willing to face a new dawn
The end and beginning coming together
Awakening the inner self
In a place of gratitude and thankful expression
For another day in paradise.
