Alberta Summer Games 2026

Part 3 – When the Rain Changed Everything

If you're just joining us, this is the final post in our three-part look back at the 2026 Alberta Summer Games. If you missed Parts 1 and 2, be sure to check them out—they capture the excitement of the Opening Ceremonies and the incredible competition that filled the week.

From July 16–19, Strathcona County welcomed athletes from across Alberta to compete, connect, and create memories that will last a lifetime.

Then... the weather had its own plans.

Record-breaking rainfall swept through the Edmonton area, forcing schedule changes and the cancellation of some events.

But what stood out wasn't the rain.

It was the people.

Athletes making the most of every opportunity.

Volunteers adapting on the fly.

Coaches encouraging their teams.

Families cheering, umbrellas and all.

Sometimes the most memorable moments in sport aren't measured by medals or final scores.

They're measured by resilience.

Thank you to everyone who made the 2026 Alberta Summer Games such an incredible event. It was an honour for us to document your stories and share just a small glimpse of what made this week so special.

Alberta Summer Games 2026

Part 2 – Competition in Full Swing

Every two years, the Alberta Summer Games bring together some of the province's best young athletes to compete, learn, and represent their regions.

This year's Games, held July 16–19 and hosted by Strathcona County, showcased not only incredible athletic performances but also the spirit of community that makes these Games so special.

With hundreds of athletes competing across multiple venues, there was never a shortage of amazing moments happening all around us.

From intense competition and personal bests to celebrations, encouragement, and unforgettable displays of sportsmanship, every venue had its own story to tell.

That's one of the reasons we wanted to share this event as a three-part series.

Alberta Summer Games 2026

Part 1 – The Journey Begins

From July 16–19, Strathcona County welcomed thousands of Alberta's top young athletes for the 2026 Alberta Summer Games.

We were incredibly honoured to be there to help capture the excitement, determination, and unforgettable moments throughout the Games.

There were simply too many great moments to fit into a single post, so we're sharing our favourite images as a three-part series.

Today, we're starting where every great event begins...

The Opening Ceremonies.

Athletes from across the province came together after months—and for many, years—of preparation, proudly representing their regions before the first competitions got underway.

The energy was incredible.

The anticipation was everywhere.

And once the competitions began, it was game on.

Confidence Isn't Photogenic.

It's Built.

One of the biggest misconceptions about professional photography is that some people are simply "good in front of the camera."

They're not.

The confidence you see in a great portrait usually isn't there when someone first walks through the door.

It grows.

A conversation.

A little guidance.

A little something different today...

Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to speak at the S**C 2026 Conference about one of my favourite topics—how body language can completely change a photograph.

After that presentation, the team at DONE.PHOTO invited me to join them for a webinar on August 5, and I was honoured to accept.

Whether it's a professional headshot, a family portrait, or an athlete team photo, I've always believed the best images aren't created by using body language as a base. It helps people feel comfortable, confident, and enjoy themselves.
