Now that the magazine issue has been published I can finally share that I was selected as an honourable mention in the Film category for my photo, Quiet Rebellion, in Kodak’s photo contest 🌷

Thank you to the judges, Donal Boyd Photography, , and Ben Thouard Photography for this incredible recognition!

“Quiet Rebellion was a moment that felt both subtle and striking. In a field of yellow tulips, one red bloom stood just slightly taller, catching the light in a way that made it impossible to ignore. It wasn’t dramatic or loud, just quietly different. That contrast pulled me in immediately. I remember feeling a sense of stillness, paired with a kind of quiet admiration for that small act of distinction within the natural world.

Shooting on a 1950s Rolleicord camera (thank you always Andrew for this gift) made the moment feel even more deliberate. Film slows everything down, you don’t just take a photo, you commit to it. There’s no instant feedback, no correction. Standing there, I had to trust that what I was seeing, the colour, the balance, the emotion, was worth preserving. That slower process deepened my connection to the scene and made the act of capturing it feel more like a conversation rather than a reaction.

At its core, this image is about individuality within belonging. The tulips share the same soil, the same light, the same environment, yet one expresses itself differently. It doesn’t break away from the field; it remains part of it, adding to its story. That quiet contrast speaks to a broader connection between nature and ourselves through the idea that standing apart does not mean standing alone.”
