The Place I Remember We Went To

After a long pause, I am finding my way back to creating. I like to think my muse would have wanted me to continue. So here I begin again. On a foggy day in June, I returned to Ferryland and photographed this landscape. Only this time, I stepped into the frame.

The Muse will be screened at Signal Hill Campus on June 25. All are welcome!

Signal Hill Campus is where Robert and I created most of our portraits. After business hours, one corner of the downstairs lobby became our little studio — a place where so much of our art came to life.

It means a great deal to me that The Muse will be screened in the very place where much of our art was created. In loving memory of Robert.

Tonight is a very special night. The Muse has won the Best Short Documentary Award at the 2026 Canadian Screen Awards, the highest honour for Canadian screen industry.

I am at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in Toronto, attending the ceremony with the talented director Wanda Nolan and the wonderful team from the National Film Board of Canada. We have just stepped off the stage after accepting the award, and I am still trying to take it all in. There are so many thoughts and emotions running through my mind that words hardly seem enough.

My sincere gratitude goes to Wanda and the NFB team for creating this beautiful tribute to Robert and our friendship.

And my eternal gratitude goes to Robert—my loyal friend, dear companion, and eternal muse. Without him, I would never have come this far. He changed my life in the best way possible, and meeting him remains one of the greatest gifts of my life.

After the ceremony, I returned to my hotel room, opened my laptop, and watched The Muse again. Even though I have seen it on the big screen several times, it still touches me deeply every time.

Tonight, as I watched, my eyes filled with tears once more—not tears of sadness, but tears of joy. Joy that our story has reached so many people. Joy that Robert's spirit continues to inspire others through this film.

I know he would be proud to see how many people have been touched by our film. And tonight, I believe he was with us every step of the way, with that familiar big smile on his face.

In loving memory of Robert. ❤️❤️❤️

Today is a special day. The Muse is now streaming on the NFB website and app, available for anyone in Canada to watch.

It means so much to know that Robert, my eternal muse, will continue to inspire people, not only on big screens at festivals and cinemas, but now on small screens in homes across the country as well. I’ve watched The Muse several times on the big screen already, and I know I will watch it many more times. It never feels like too much.

I want to thank Wanda and her wonderful team once again for creating such a beautiful and heartfelt tribute to Robert and our friendship.

And for Robert — my loyal friend, dear companion, and eternal muse — I am grateful to him every day for helping shape the person and artist I have become. I know he would be happy to see our film reaching more people today, and I like to believe he is watching from above with a smile.

In loving memory of Robert.
