It's been bittersweet photographing from the stairs going up to the Media Booth and along the arena boards these past 2 Pistons games. The Centennial in Steinbach has been a part of our family since we moved to Steinbach in 1966.
Growing up, my husband James, remembers walking to the rink as often as he could... along with his brothers and friends playing shinny on the outdoor rink and watching the Steinbach Huskies in the Centennial.
His mom, would often open up the house door and listen for the sounds of pucks slapping against the ODR boards, and knew that her boys weren't coming home for dinner (just yet)... but she knew where they were. (No cell phones in the 70's).
Then having the opportunity to photograph Hockey teams/ Ringette teams (when Wes Keating or Max Schalla weren't available) that was memorable.
Then came the Allan Cup, Steinbach Husky's and Eastman Selects games. And now for the past 13 years, it's been STEINBACH PISTONS! I couldn't be more proud of each of the teams that called the Centennial home over the past 55 years.
As we cheer on the Pistons to the Turnbull Cup, I take this time to THANK each of the parents of a Pistons player who trusted me with their sons' "Pistons hockey moments". I have made friends with and still connect with many of them over the years. Thank you!
Standing along the boards or on the stairs of the steps going up the Media Booth in the Centennial, I got to experience the games through the lens of my camera. I got to hear what the 'other' teams were like standing behind their bench. I got to capture the ouch moments and the HURRAY! moments from those stairs.
Humbling.
Turning a page that is heaving with memories, is hard. But having a sneak peek at the sequel is exciting!
Here's to MANY MORE years of Hockey in Steinbach!!!
AND... GO PISTONS GO!!!
