This last week I’ve seen 3 different types of monkeys in the wild but the Squirrel Monkey has to be my favorite so far. They are the smallest of the monkeys in Costa Rica and are listed as vulnerable or endangered. We watched several of them playing in this tree but I read that they can travel in groups as large as 20-70 in a troop.

“Fractured Depths”

Wild Ice of Lake Minnewaka.

To stand out on a frozen mountain lake is an experience! To do it in tbe dark; even more so!
Last January I got to experience something quite amazing. I had never heard or felt the sounds and vibrations of a frozen lake. As I sat out on the dark ice it was as if the lake was alive and speaking to the mountains surrounding it. Every so often there would be a snap, sharp crack, and Star Wars sounding “pew pews” 😁 as the ice shifted with the changing temperatures. At first you feel a bit uneasy hearing such strange noises coming from under the ice, but eventually you wait in anticipation hoping to hear the unique voice of the season called winter ❄️
