Last July I realized that my current business plan wasn't working. My rental studio had no one in it and I could barely afford rent each month. At 45 I thought I should have this s**t figured out by now. But here I was, staring down the barrel of another pivot, another restart, another "new beginning."

Midlife is anything but a solid state like society had all of us believing. It's the test you've been studying for this whole time. It's the practical fu***ng exam. It's scary yet thrilling, nerve wracking yet glorious, nausea inducing yet the most clear you have ever been. It is the most powerful threshold you will ever stand at.

Someone once told me I wouldn't be a real photographer if I didn't know how to smooth skin in Photoshop.

One day I walked away from my computer mid-edit, looked at what I was doing to someone's face, and said f**k it.

Wrinkles? Love them. Cellulite? Have it. Freckles? People are literally tattooing those on their faces now.

I will never sand you down in pursuit of someone else's idea of polished.
