✨Most headshots aren’t good enough…

Your headshot IS a first impression and you don’t get to explain it. Most people think a good headshot is about the nice smile.

The nice smile is NOT alone why clients book.

If your lighting is off, if your skin feels dull/flat/lifeless, if your image isn’t sharp and clear… it’s not working for you even if you think it’s ’fine.’

If business professionals are using images that don’t reflect the level there operating at, people will feel the gap.

When you have professional images, you’re building how your brand is perceived and THIS is what creates trust.

The fastest way to ruin a photoshoot?

Trying to control it…

I see it every now and then, overthinking, second guessing every pose, questioning direction mid shoot and I get it. It’s vulnerable.

As I let you know when we’re shooting, the magic happens when you let yourself be, it’s not supposed to be super serious, stiff, or totally proper. Sometimes we do things mid shoot just to loosen tension and the images that follow are THE ones. There’s a method to the madness 🙈

You hired me for a reason, not just to take your photos but to guide the entire experience.

Your brand definitely does not say the same as I’ve experienced many times over in my own business over the course of 6 years…so your photos shouldn’t either.

What works when you start your business is exactly what you needed at the time, but as your business grows your audience becomes more specific, you refine your offers, and your confidence grows.

Then you get to this point (again happened to me recently 🙈) where your content feels super off.
When you know, trust me, you know!
…and it’s not that it’s bad content, it just doesn’t reflect where you’re at today.

This is where businesses can get stuck because they keep using the same photos for a version of their business they’ve outgrown.

‘I choose you to do my photos because you help guide the right poses and I appreciate that’

…that is exactly why I share what I do, and do what I do! Yes I work behind the camera but I’ve also spent well over a decade in front of it, even as a professional I know how terrible it can feel to not have guidance from a photographer. Guidance and comfort is key in my process. The cup of tea, the chat before the camera comes out, the ease, it matters more in the outcome than just pulling out a camera. It’s intimidating and I know it.

If you don’t know who your target audience is, do NOT book a branding shoot yet! If you’re trying to speak to everyone then you’re speaking to no one.

I see a lot of people pump out content in every direction without a clear audience in mind and it just doesn’t work. Who are you speaking to? What problems of theirs are you trying to solve? What’s their age range? Income level? What do they worry about at night?

Before the camera is ever picked up, you must know your audience so the images feel intentional, aligned, and create connection with the audience in mind.

Yesssss I do headshots, BUT we also pull it back and do a few more personality driven images too. You get to choose what images you want at the end of the day but I LOVE being able to give people variety to pick from. The goal is always to shoot images you’re excited to use!

We captured some traditional headshots on a white backdrop that absolutely serve their necessary purpose especially for local Realtor Liam McEachen for signage, marketing material, business cards.

Then more relaxed images like the grey backdrop that brings people in a little closer in wanting to know more about the person behind the business, perfect for about me intro posts, LinkedIn, profile images.

I’m not just one thing…and never have been.

Photographer.
Shooter.
Gym girlie.
Caffeine obsessed.
Model.
BC mountain biker…even if I live in the flattest province now.
Self portrait artist.
Curly hair one day, straightened the next.

You’ve probably seen one version of me but there’s ALWAYS more behind it.
For a long time I used to hide some of those pieces wondering what people would think until eventually I thought f*ck it, this is me. ALL of this is me.
Take it or leave it.

The truth is that every version of me built this one. The drive, the discipline, the eye, the experience of being both in front of the camera and behind it. It all adds up! It’s all a reason why I do what I do in the way that I do. There’s no one with this exact mix and no one who sees things the way I do.

Literally no one is me, and that’s the whole point 💕
