I’m sleeping on the Street Tuesday Night!!
What are some of us doing on Tuesday February 7th from 10 pm – 9 am in the morning....We are going to be parking our lawn chairs along the front of 37 Frank Youth Centre in Strathroy and sleeping on the street for the night “A Night in their Shoes”
This event is to raise homelessness hurt and hungry in the Strathroy area. The actual fundraising event is called The Coldest Night of the Year on February 25 in Strathroy
Moneys raised from the February 25th event will go towards a warming center/crash pads and operating costs etc. at 37 Frank Street, youth center. Our goal this year is $100,000 because one homeless youth is one too many.
Last year myself and Satellite Director of 37 Frank, Dave Berdan decided to do this, and to raise awareness for the coldest night of the year. This year it has grown and they have been challenges made Chris Soares and station manager David McAllen from My Fm have been challenged and have further on challenged other members of the public. The mayor, the deputy mayor, a counselor of Strathroy-Caradoc, representation from the police department and fire departments will also be out there as well as some other members of the public.
It is not a night of entertainment , festivities or anything like that. It’s a night for us to sit, reflect and actually feel what it is like to be on the street in the dead of winter. It’s a night so we can feel what it’s like to be in their shoes.
We had a youth homeless for two weeks in October and this past week when I went to work, I had a youth come in when I opened and told me that he was on the street all night.
That’s unacceptable and one youth homeless is one to many! Would you like to join us – show up with warm clothes and a lawn chair.
