I am drawn to capturing animals in their natural environments - whether it be bears foraging, Bighorn Sheep navigating steep cliffs, Mountain Goats poised against our grasslands, or eagles and osprey in flight. Each image reflects not only what I see, but also the experience of being fully present in these moments: alert, quiet, and deeply connected to the wild. Traveling across British Columbia and Alberta I've found endless inspiration with the diversity of our wildlife. I am learning to move at nature's pace. Based in Summerland, BC, I love to explore and enjoy using photography to share the beauty I encounter and hope to encourage a deeper appreciation and respect for the natural world.

Hunting. Even on a dreary day. The 4 osprey in my area are still near the nest but it won't be long before they migrate. The fledglings have learnt to fish and are no longer (completely) reliant on their parents. Although, at times we hear one of them squawking. I'm guessing, but I think it means something along the lines of 'share that fish'!

As some of you know the entire town of Summerland was recently under an evacuation order due to a wildfire that threatened our town. Stress is a funny thing. It sneaks up on you. In my case, I needed one day... just one, to feel normal again- so I went with my photo club to the Grist Mill and Gardens in Keremeos and shot some pics. Not my usual subjects, but getting lost in the process of taking photos was cathartic for me. Check out the mill if you get the chance to visit.

Immature Bald Eagle. This guy is young, but huge. He flew overtop and I could hear the sound of the wind that his wings were making. The Okanagan valley is full of smoke this morning. A lot of the smaller birds have disappeared in Summerland since the wildfires, but it has been fun to watch the predators (Eagles and Ospreys) since returning home. I love the wildlife in my area, and have an even greater appreciation for it today.

Summer is busy for all of us. Especially these guys. Did you know that there are 300-380 species of bees in the Okanagan valley? Many of them nest in bare soil patches rather than large social hives. So, this is your excuse not to rake those leaves this fall!

A few more photos from the Khutzeymateen. Definitely a privilege to visit this area. I went in mid May as the sedge grass was starting to grow and the Grizzly bears were starting to emerge from hibernation. It's a fantastic place to go if you ever have the opportunity.

These 2 Great Horned Owl fledglings were only a few days away from leaving the nest. Now that they are using their wings...

These 2 Great Horned Owl fledglings were only a few days away from leaving the nest. Now that they are using their wings and hopping from branch to branch the next step is learning to hunt for themselves. I love having these raptors in our neighbourhood. They take care of mice and other rodents.
