Shelley Arding Photography Shelley Arding. BC girl sharing a love of where I live. Follow me on IG My photography is rooted in time spent outdoors.

I am drawn to capturing animals in their natural environments - whether it be bears foraging, Bighorn Sheep navigating steep cliffs, Mountain Goats poised against our grasslands, or eagles and osprey in flight. Each image reflects not only what I see, but also the experience of being fully present in these moments: alert, quiet, and deeply connected to the wild. Traveling across British Columbia a

nd Alberta I've found endless inspiration with the diversity of our wildlife. I am learning to move at nature's pace. Based in Summerland, BC, I love to explore and enjoy using photography to share the beauty I encounter and hope to encourage a deeper appreciation and respect for the natural world.

A few more photos from the Khutzeymateen. Definitely a privilege to visit this area. I went in mid May as the sedge grass was starting to grow and the Grizzly bears were starting to emerge from hibernation. It's a fantastic place to go if you ever have the opportunity.

These 2 Great Horned Owl fledglings were only a few days away from leaving the nest. Now that they are using their wings and hopping from branch to branch the next step is learning to hunt for themselves. I love having these raptors in our neighbourhood. They take care of mice and other rodents.

Osprey season at the lake. They are one of only 6 land bird species that can be found worldwide. On all continents except Antarctica. They have outer toes that are reversible which are helpful when grabbing slippery fish!

Eagles are my favourite bird predator. Although, at this time of year I am happy to see it taking a fish home for dinner. I make it a rule never to count the ducklings.

Pheasants are tough to spot and even harder to capture a good shot! I love the call they make to each other. It has a bit of a rattle sound to it. I really enjoy the changing of the seasons!

Khutzeymateen, BC - Grizzly

The Khutzeymateen Grizzly Bear sanctuary is absolutely amazing. If you ever have the chance to visit - go! The estuary is located north of Prince Rupert and accessible by boat or plane. Bears are not hunted in this area. They ignore the few humans nearby and go about their daily routine. This was taken in June previous. When they wake from hibernation their focus is regaining weight lost over the winter so they feast on sedge grass.

There may be a few grizzly bears in my feed going forward! I'm dreaming of the Khutzeymateen again. This youngster was grazing on sedge grass before twilight. The bears in that area are well adapted to the environment and will also forage for mussels and clams prior to salmon season.
