Anna Burns Photography

Anna Burns Photography I am high energy, creative, versatile, and a passionate and ethical storyteller. My name is Anna, and I have loved photography for as long as I can remember.

I remember as a young girl using my parents' camera to take as many photos of things that I found interesting, like green grass in Victoria. I grew up in Calgary, so seeing green grass in the winter months was fascinating. I have branched out beyond taking photos of green grass. My favourite type of photography is candid. I love capturing people in the moment. I spent nine years working at three d

ifferent non-profits in East Africa and British Columbia doing media and communications work. I am currently a photojournalism student at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in the journalism program.

More than 70 runners, walkers and joggers participated in the inaugural parkrun at Surrey’s Tynehead Regional Park Saturday (May 11).

Event organizer Ahmed Marzouk told the Now-Leader he was surprised by Saturday’s turnout.

“I was excited,” Marzouk said. “I’m so happy about it and looking forward to more events coming up.”

The family-friendly “parkrun” event, which is led by a team of volunteers, will happen weekly on Saturdays at 9 a.m.

The event starts at the yellow gate that is in front of the pedestrian crossing on 168 Street, and parking is available at the Serpentine Fields parking lot (10065 168 St.).

“Every week, it’s gonna be my ritual on Saturday morning at 9 a.m.,” Marzouk added.

It’s not a competitive event; you can run, walk, or jog, said Marzouk.

Whalley Little League hosted their annual Bat-A-Thon at Whalley Athletic Park on Saturday (June 6).

“It’s so good to see a community together and everybody having so much fun,” said Gavin Burke, president of the baseball association.

All 30 Whalley teams participated to show off their skills and compete in the batting competition. The individual and team with the most points per division won prizes. The family-friendly event also had a dunk tank and an inflatable sports bounce house.
