Oh, movement. How I love you.

Maybe this stems from my love of dance.
Maybe it's from my obsession with film.
Maybe it's from being a figure skater and often seeing the world blurred or sideways.
Maybe she's born with it.
Maybe there's no real reason.
Maybe it's just awesome.

The June Motel in Beaver Valley is a bit of a hidden gem.

It sits right along the river, with the escarpment just above it.

The lodge is quiet and cozy, and everything feels a little more calm than you’d expect.
The ceremony was full sun, umbrellas scattered through the crowd.

Dinner was in the tent with the lights strung up overhead.

I’ve been thinking about this image a lot.

April 16th would have been my grandma’s 99th birthday. And ya know what? I miss her something fierce. She didn't make it to our wedding. She wanted to. She would have been a hoot on the dancefloor and had seconds of our wedding cake. Maybe even thirds. But she wasn't well enough to be there.

I think part of why I do this work is because of how quickly time moves… and how much we don’t get to hold onto. How often the people we love miss out, and how often we miss out on them.

Moments like this feel small when they’re happening.
But they’re the ones that stay.

You’ll probably hear a lot of opinions about first looks.
But it’s not really about what’s recommended.
It’s about what fits you.

Some people feel more grounded having that moment together beforehand.

Others don’t want to lose the feeling of seeing each other for the first time down the aisle.
Both are valid.

This first look in Meaford felt easy, playful, and private.
It gave them space to be together before everything else unfolded.

That’s usually the question to come back to: what will help you feel the most like yourselves?

Full Review - “Frances was such a phenomenal photographer for our wedding last September. She is such a kind soul, and makes you feel very comfortable in front of the camera. We were drawn to Frances for her unique perspective and her artistic, editorial photographs.

Thank you for capturing one of the best weekends of my life; thank you for connecting with us on a human level; thank you for the advice and kind words during moments of stress.

(We love all the pictures you took, and we are so excited to relive those memories again and again)”

I was with Ashley last night and it had me thinking about this.

These were my flowers.

I got married just outside of Owen Sound, and I chose dear friends of mine to be part of the day. To help bring the day together.
Ashley from made these.

I didn’t come to her with a plan.
I didn’t have a vision.
Just a feeling.

I knew I wanted colour.
Texture.
Nothing that felt too heavy or overdone.
That was about the extent of it.

And then I handed it over.
Trusted her to take that small, not-fully-formed idea
and turn it into something that would feel right when I was standing there, holding it.

I think about that now, from the other side.
How different it feels when you don’t have to manage every detail.

When you trust the people around you to take care of things in ways you don’t have the language for yet.

These photos weren’t taken by me.
I wasn’t working that day.
I was just there.
The way it should be, IMHO.

And I got to experience what that kind of trust actually feels like.

Perfection has a subtle way of showing up on wedding days.
In the way people hold themselves.
In the feeling that everything needs to look right.

But it doesn’t actually make the moment better.
It just makes it harder to be inside of it.

At The Broadview Hotel, the moments that stayed with me weren’t the polished ones.
They were the ones that felt real.
A little unguarded.
A little imperfect.
That’s where the beauty lives

Urban wedding photography in Toronto doesn’t have to feel busy.

There’s almost always a quieter pocket somewhere.
A bit of space.
A moment to breathe.
I tend to find those

There’s a lot of advice about how to structure your wedding day.

Take time away.
Stay with your guests.
Make sure you get all the photos.
Don’t miss anything.

And it makes sense. There’s a lot of noise around what a wedding day should look like.
But most of the time, the more helpful question is much simpler:

What would actually help me feel like myself that day?

Not what looks best on paper.
Not what other couples chose.
Just… what will help you settle into it.

For some people, that means staying close to their people the whole time.
For others, it means stepping away for a few quiet minutes to breathe and come back to each other.

Both are completely valid.

The part that matters is having someone who’s paying attention to that with you.

Not just how the day is structured,
but how it actually feels while you’re in it.

I’ve always been drawn to light.
Not in a technical way.
Just in the way it behaves.

The way it moves, shifts, dances, changes throughout the day.
How it catches on things and then disappears a second later.
How it can spotlight an ordinary space and make it feel extraordinary momentarily.

I’ll stop what I’m doing just to watch it for a minute.
Usually longer than I meant to.

There’s something about it I keep coming back to.
The way it changes things without trying to.
The way it adds meaning, an anchoring to the memory.

I think I’ve always been paying attention to it.
And photography just became an excuse to follow it.

It ends up shaping how I move through a day,
so what’s felt doesn’t get lost in how it’s supposed to look

Movement changes things.
In life, it’s how we process, release, come back to ourselves.

And in photography, it’s often where people stop trying and start feeling like themselves again.
The still moments matter.

But the way someone moves, reaches, turns, takes up space
that’s where something real begins to show.

This came from a creative collaboration, but it’s something I think about in every wedding and portrait session.
You don’t have to hold yourself still to be seen.
