It is NOT ok to be told we have to be like someone else to make a living. That we need to force ourselves to fit in a box that was never built to hold all that we can be.

We CAN build the businesses and lives we want while being the people we were created to be. ✨

And yeah, I made this while wearing a pimple patch and no makeup. First day of school over here is 🫠.

But I’ve loved seeing first hand this summer just how great brand photos are at setting the visual foundation for a business. And I’ve been seeing my clients KILLING it after their sessions this summer.

Brand photos are NOT a vanity purchase!

I wish I could say I staged this…’😂🫠

Schools starting which means back to the office, to the marketing, to the hustling. It’s all good things but still a lot so don’t forget to schedule some rest in the middle of all that productivity, even if it’s just taking yourself for a coffee. 😘 Rest is productive too.

I’m a big fan of simple. I’d rather offer one session I believe in than dilute it with a buffet of options.

So The Brand Library is the one, because even when people booked smaller sessions, I ended up creating this one anyway because I knew my clients needed it. Waaaay too much over delivering! 😅

If your rebrand is looming because the old you doesn’t fit anymore, comment ‘Brand Library’ and I’ll send you the link to learn more. 😘

This is why I’ve kept at it for 16 years. Because there are SO many easier ways to make money than being a photographer.

But really seeing people for who they are, the beauty in them, that’s what keeps me going.

Most people see brand photos as pretty placeholders or something to feed the content machine, but every session reminds me they’re so much more than that.

And then Alex Street 🗣 Speaking Coach, the master of story himself, tells me just how much my photos made him feel, and I remember it’s all worth it. Being truly seen is such a gift.

Your grid matters because your instagram profile is basically a baby homepage. It’s the place people who don’t know you go first to decide if you’re for them.

Maybe they clicked over after watching a reel or someone tagged you or you followed them at an event. Wherever they’re coming from, your grid should match your vibe and make what you do super clear.

So use your brand photos mixed in with your selfies and text graphics to let people see there’s a human behind the business and dang is she cool! (DISCLAIMER: perfection not required 😘)

Photography is my #1 passion and I’d NEVER thought about writing a book.

Actually 30 min before I felt the HUGE pull to write one, I said out loud ‘Oh I could never write a book. That’s not for me.’ But after seeing the crushing consequences of perfectionism over and over, I knew I had to.

I’ve seen it in my life in so many ways and in my clients too. The pressure to do everything perfectly, to be ‘professional’ which somehow equates to show no weakness or learning. It keeps us small and stuck while making us feel like we’re actually being responsible.

So I’m just done. I’m drop kicking perfectionism out of my own life by writing a book I think I need even more than you do. 😅

‘The Trap of Perfect’ is the reminder that we’re allowed to be imperfect, to be human, to be learning. And that’s where our success will really come from.

It’s launching late fall and I’ll be announcing all the things here so follow along if you’re tired of perfect too. ♥️

Trying to be someone you’re not is exhausting and the best thing you can do for your business is stop.

Your future favorite clients don’t want to see you copy someone else’s photos, outfits or messaging just because that’s what the rest of your industry does. They want to see what makes you different so they can know if they relate to you, if you’re the person for them.

Time to take the pressure off and stop trying to look like someone else’s version of success. Get outside the box that wasn’t made to fit you. 😘

Showing up when I don’t feel like my best self is how I’ve actually become her. 🫶

As a cancer survivor figuring out my new normal, it’s easy for me to make excuses for myself of why I can’t go to events or show up online. I just need to rest more. I just need to get more clients first. The list is endless.

But deep down, I know that it’s usually because I feel intimidated to be in rooms full of successful women when I don’t feel like I am one too.

But cancer has also taught me not to wait and to make the life I want RIGHT NOW.

So I’ve nervously started to step into these rooms. And ironically that’s actually how I’ve found the version of myself that belongs there too.

I didn’t need to reach some milestone, I just needed to give myself permission to be there before I felt ready. And now the list of dreams I’ve just gone for keeps growing. 🙌

“Do I have to change who I am to be taken seriously?”

I’ve thought this SO many times as a business owner. But 16 years in and I’ve learned that the secret sauce is actually being MORE you and a lot less perfectly professional.

And doesn’t that sound more fun anyway? If you’re ready to build a brand like that, comment ‘BRAND LIBRARY’ and let’s get you where you want to go. 😘
