I recently learned a new word that applies to a bird pose that I love photographing , Horaltic .
The Horaltic pose is a posture found with such birds as Vultures, Anhingas, Storks, Cormorants and Eagles. With wings spread open and raised and with back to the sun , these birds use this method to capture warmth and to dry and sanitize their feathers.
In this photo a Black Vulture strikes this classic pose in the early morning in South Florida.
