“I looked back first,” Dan said confidently.
“Excuse me? I’m sorry, but I’m the one who looked back first!” Melissa responded.
They were discussing the events that transpired immediately after their first date, moments after they had just said goodbye and were walking away from one another.
“No, it was me,” Dan calmly insisted, “I looked back at you first.”
“How could it be you if it was me who looked back first? Melissa reasoned, “I looked back and I didn’t see you looking back at me at all.”
“I’m pretty sure it was me,” Dan said, softening his tone.
Today, when they look back at who looked back first, it is generally agreed that Melissa was the first to look back, although Dan still has his doubts.
But we all know that it doesn’t matter who looked back first, does it? What matters is that they both recognized, in that brief instant after saying goodbye, that there was something to look back at. That’s the most important thing here; that whatever it was that had just transpired between them, both of them felt it.
Malcolm Gladwell calls it the “blink” moment - when you ‘know’ something without knowing why. It’s deep-level intuition. Melissa and Dan had their blink moment. They both knew, after that first date, that there was something happening between them, a spark, perhaps, maybe something more. Maybe it was that they both recognized on a much deeper level they had just met their soulmate.
Like all enchanted encounters, what slowly and effortlessly grew from that tentative and humble beginning, it followed a straight path to today – 15 October 2022 – their Wedding Day.
Melissa and Dan were married at the Centennial Albert United Church in Oshawa, supported by many family and friends. Their reception was held in the elegant Elgin Room at the Wooden Sticks Golf Club in Uxbridge.
Froz’n Motion was honored to be invited to take part in their beautiful celebration of love. What follows is a sneak peek into the events of that day.
