Let me tell you who I am, so you know exactly whom you are standing beside. I am Dr. Bahira Abdulsalam a licensed professional engineer, a professor, and a PhD holder in advanced composite materials. I am a researcher with several published, peer-reviewed works in my field, and the founder of an innovative business in composite infrastructure someone who has spent her life building, teaching others to build, and pushing the science of engineering forward. I am a mother.

I am a proud Canadian and a proud Muslim woman of faith. I am a Palestinian rights advocate, a defender of parental rights and of children, and a co-founder and national spokesperson of the 1 Million March 4 Children. I am the founder of the Be The Change Movement, and I have stepped forward to serve my city. All of these are one person. None of them can be separated from the others, and none of them makes me less of an engineer.

In the weeks surrounding my hearing before Professional Engineers Ontario, an extraordinary wave of support arrived: letters, messages, written submissions, and generous donations from architects, engineers, lawyers, professors, students, and members of the public across Canada and beyond.

You wrote to PEO in your own names and your own professions, to say plainly that defending human rights is not misconduct — it is conscience. I read every letter. Those who could not write sent their prayers; those who could gave of their means. None of it was small to me.

Let us be clear about what this is really about. I spoke for Palestine and the sanctity of innocent life. I spoke for parental rights and the protection of our children. I spoke for human dignity — the belief that every person is worthy of respect and freedom. None of that is a breach of professional conduct. It is the duty of every human being of conscience.

And the fight is not over. The hearing has been adjourned again and again from February to June, from June to July and it continues into August
