I had a blast photographing my good friends Darcy and Donal and their adorable kids. We got lots of lovely posed photos with everyone smiling at the camera, but this candid shot is one of my favourites. It really shows this family's deep affection for each other—and their goofy sense of humour. ❤

This Common Grackle was putting on quite the display at High Park. I initially took some shots from another angle, but then I saw this beautiful forsythia. I took a couple steps, changed my angle, and framed up the grackle against the yellow foliage. I love the contrast!

Happy Earth Day! One way to help the planet is gardening with native plants, which provide habitat for birds, pollinators, and other wildlife. This American robin was feasting on this staghorn sumac, a native shrub that produces velvety red fruit spikes in spring and summer (which are obviously delicious). In the fall the leaves turn yellow, then orange, then a lovely scarlet. I want one in my yard!
