Toronto during this time of year is a gamble with what to wear - the morning skies are clear one minute and then the next minute rain hits. Exploring the graffiti alleys with doing some street photography while wearing this Upton gave me the confidence rain or shine that id be able to accomplish what we set out to do.

I told myself that this year I’d use social media as a place to keep a digital journal rather than a place to only post when trying to market myself in what I’m doing or looking for new work. Hence why I’ve been posting not only projects but photos that I’ve taken in the past that tell a story.

These photos particularly were taken during sunset while driving up the ice fields parkway. Golden hour in the Rockies is beautiful no matter where you look, doesn’t matter if you have a clear view of a forest, lake, mountain or train, it will look beautiful. For this train shot I waited quite a while as I just missed it passing the first time, as people were leaving I decided to park and wait. What’s exciting is that you hear the train going “choo choo” from a distance which preps you for that shot. I waited for what I believe to be the perfect moment before hitting that shutter and this was the outcome. Partially in shadow, most of well lit by the setting sun and the front of the train in perfect view.

Waterton Lakes National park is one of the most beautiful places in Alberta. I woke up extra early so I can catch the Prince of Wales hotel during sunrise. I find that the majority of times it’s worth it to wake up early to catch the sunrise. The little discomfort that goes with it quickly disappears when you see what most people miss while sleeping.

As I’ve been revisiting photos from past trips, I keep getting pulled back to Alberta/BC. 2 of the most beautiful provinces in Canada. You can literally go from desert to prairies to vast canyons to mountains to deep forest to glaciers all within the same day of driving. It’s absolutely wild, I can’t wait to do another road trip on the west side of Canada.

Throwing it back to another trip out west in BC, these photos particular were taken around Takakkaw Falls.

Quick story, after viewing Takakkaw falls I wanted to do a longer hike around the area. Hiked over to a trail head that takes you to Laughing Falls but no body was there nor did anyone enter. I didn’t wanna go solo in the back country for obvious reasons so I waited to see if a group went in so I can join them. Well I waited about 15 minutes, still no one. Once 20 minutes hit I started heading back to my car when a man and his dog entered the trail. I asked if he’s heading to the falls, he said yes and then I asked if I could join and he said of course. We did the hike no problem without any bear encounters or any close calls. Success.

Almost a week being home and it’s still taking some time to get used to the craziness of the city. It’s funny how even though I was born and raised in Toronto, heading on assignment into the calmness of the desert for almost a month amongst the Tuareg people has made me appreciate the simple life. No light pollution, no sounds, no chaos, no live to work mentality, just the desert. I have a new appreciation for being off the grid completely.

Shooting events in Toronto led me to meeting and taking photos of some leading musicians in the scene such as Drake, Justin Bieber, Skepta & ZHU. I've travelled countries, learning landscape photography, and worked as a fashion photographer. I never shy away from an event or two, but my true passion is portraits. The essence of capturing a person, the depth of feeling you may get from just looking at someone is inspiring to me. The people I get to meet, know, and understand fuels me everyday.
