Are we staring at a giant rock that is completely obscured by fog? Yes ✅

Did I intentionally point to make it look more dramatic? Also Yes ✅

Are we all going back to Sony Kando to stare cinematically at even more rocks and do it all over again? You bet! ✅

Wake up early for the photo. It's worth it! 🫡

I'll admit I did have to photoshop-out a few stray tourists in the first photo, but it was much less crowded at these spots early in the morning, making the quick photoshop work much more painless than if I had gone later in the day!

Since making the switch from Architect to Photographer and now full-time YouTuber, I've had a little more than 3 years to think about how to reconcile my past life, with what I do now. I'm slowly beginning to realize they're one and the same. It's kind of like working a job, and then realizing the skills you've gained working that job allow you qualify for other jobs, or other opportunities that before were never possible.

Even though everything has worked out beyond what I could have ever imagined, I still catch myself worrying about how things might eventually go wrong, or how suddenly this could ago away and I end up stuck, or unsure what happens next.

On a more optimistic level, I still find myself applying the skills I learned from my schooling and previous career to what I do now. Having more opportunities to travel has allowed me to photograph several of my bucket list locations and buildings. The Walt Disney Opera House by Frank Gehry being one of them! The Opera House is one of his most iconic buildings, in fact, there's even an episode of the Simpsons that makes a joke about how Gehry designed this building by crumpling up a piece of paper.

4 Different cameras made this carousel possible. But you'd probably never know that because each of them was color graded with my Lightroom presets. They're designed to work on all RAW photos taken with all the major camera brands.

In this case I opted for my "White Cedar" preset from my DIV2 pack. It's one of my favorites for lifestyle and portrait photos since it mutes harsh highlights and does wonders to smooth out skintones.

If you want to see all of my DIV2 presets in action, Comment: "PRESET" or... you can check them out from the link in my bio, OR in my recent YouTube video titled "A realistic day of photography". The video takes you behind the scenes, following me around for the day to give you a look into what my process is like for capturing photos just like these.

New York City is my most visited location outside of Canada, yet... each time I visit I discover new places and photo spots. This is one of those spots.

At sunrise it almost doesn't matter which direction you look, you're sure to get a spectacle as the light filters through the Manhattan bridge hitting the city beyond.

For any type of street photography, my go to lens is always going to be the 15-35mm. It's right in that sweet spot that allows you to jump between 24 and 35mm, or zoom out to 15mm wide even wide views!

Are you trying to get smooth water and a dreamy sky? I shot this photo shortly after a thunderstorm, just before sunset. The dynamic skies combined with an ND filter and long exposure turns chaos into calm.

One of the best views in all of New York City. Old Pier 1 is perfect because the old posts frame the viewpoint from Brooklyn toward Manhattan.

One of my favorite composition techniques is finding natural frames for your subject. Buildings like the Oculus in New York City are a great example of this. The Calatrava arches rise in spectacular fashion allowing natural light to filter down to the lower levels. The building itself becomes a character within your frame. It's one of the main reasons I opted for a wider depth of field in this photo set. With an aperture of f5.0, rather than blurring out the background, I was able to get more of it in focus, and rely on texture and lighting to create my background separation.

LAYERS! That's what I look for when creating interesting compositions. Take the third photo for example, compared to the first photo. Both are very similar, but the version of the photo with the taxi has that extra later of the guard rail that acts as a frame, adding context and depth to the scene. Look again and you'll notice how I also center-framed the tower in the background. All these small gestures add up to a photo that has more complexity, more interest and tells a story better than if I had just shot a standard, flat photo of a taxi.
