Today, on MMIW (Missing Murdered Indigenous Women and 2SLGBTQ+ folks) day, we remember and honor the lives lost and the families affected by this ongoing tragedy.

The pictures are from today’s Strawberry Ceremony 🍓 in downtown Toronto out front of TPS Headquarters taken by Jacob Mukwa Malone.

As you take a moment to reflect on what MMIWG means to you, please take a moment to check out the facts below.

It’s important to reflect on the systems and individuals perpetuating this violence.

Indigenous women are affected by violence, with rates being 3.5 times higher than for non-Indigenous women.

Robert Pickton, a Canadian serial killer convicted of murdering 26 women despite confessing to 49. Most of his victims were Indigenous women.

A red hand over the mouth stands for all the missing sisters whose voices are not heard, for the silence of the media and law enforcement in the midst of this crisis.

Let’s stand together to demand justice, accountability, and systemic change.
