Black Ballerina, a new work by Syreeta Hector, explores "the controversies and contradictions within ballet and what it means to be Black or Brown while practising an art form that values and portrays whiteness." The piece previewed as part of SummerWorks Performance Festival; in her review, Valerie Nunziato praises Hector's distinctive choreography and emotional intensity as she tells her story of navigating the world of classical ballet as a Black Indigenous woman.
