2025 Trochu Flower, Baking, and Photography Show Results Are IN! (as published in the October 1st Edition of The Capital)
Trochu’s 53rd Flower, Baking, and Photography Show was held on August 20th, 2025 in the Trochu Hall. There were a total of 286 entries in the flower classes, and 79 entries in the fruit and vegetable classes.
The hall was colorful and vibrant with high-quality entries, we were happy to see returning exhibitors as well as welcome new faces. The Alberta Horticulture (AHA) Judges were Janine Carroll of Camrose, Theresa Zerr of Strathmore, and Deb Hatt of Delburne.
Adult Entry Results:
Most points in the Dahlia section won by Shirley Cullum, 2nd place Terri-Lynn Dodd, and 3rd place Tara Bauer. Most points in the Gladiolus section won by Shirley Cullum, 2nd place Terri-Lynn Dodd, and 3rd place Joyce Silbernagel. Most points in the Cut Flower section won by Janet Martin, 2nd place Brenda Cunningham, and 3rd place Leona Pryor. Miniature arrangement not to exceed 4” in any direction tied 1st by Leona Pryor and Joanne Gallant. The Blue & White cup and saucer arrangement was won by Janet Martin. Year 2025 “In the Pink” theme won by Janet Martin. Herbal arrangement won by Carla Collins, 2nd place Leona Pryor.
Most points in the House and Outdoor plant class won by Dorothy Meding, 2nd Deb Hatt, and 3rd Anne Guard. Plants growing in an unusual container won by Kathy Lang. Potted geranium grown outdoors tied 1st by Barb Snelgrove & Dorothy Meding.
Most points in the Vegetable section won by Courtney Hatt, 2nd Joyce Silbernagel, and 3rd Dorothy Meding. Most points in the Fruit section won by Adrionne Chari, 2nd Elfie Smith, and 3rd Dorothy Meding.
Adult Best in Show Overall horticulture classes won by Leona Pryor for her Collection of Herbs, 2nd place Shirley Cullum for her Pam Howden Triple Dahlia Display, and 3rd place Brenda Cunningham for her Monochromatic flower arrangement.
Junior Entry Results:
Most points in junior horticulture age 10 & under section won by Laney Bayes, 2nd Blaire Bayes, and tied for 3rd Liam Collins & Saylor Bauer. Most points in junior horticulture age 11 to 16 won by Taylor Beeton, 2nd Brie Collins, and 3rd William Strelbisky.
Junior Best in Show Overall horticulture classes won by Liam Collins for his collection of pocket knives, 2d place Saylor Bauer for her sweet peas, and Brie Collins for her sunflower head.
Photography was judged by Michael Ewert of Three Hills. There were 220 entries in the adult section, and 35 entries in the junior section.
Adult Entry Results:
Most points won by Hinka Ferguson, 2nd place Doug Swanson; and 3rd place Carla Collins.
Best flower photo and winner of the Roland Langshaw Memorial Trophy - Victoria Strelbisky.
Photographer’s Choice for Exceptional Photos in the Adult classes won by Sue Watmough for her photo of trees, 2nd place Teresa Bender for her scenic mountain photo, and 3rd place Dayna Mabi for her photo in the miscellaneous class.
Junior Entry Results:
Most points in age 7 to 13 won by Brie Collins, 2nd place Taylor Beeton, and tied for 3rd place Unity Turner and Hannah Strelbisky. Most points in age 14 to 17 won by Joah Savage, 2nd place Alison Strelbisky, and 3rd place Jesalyn Beeton .
Photographer's Choice for Exceptional Photos in the Junior classes won by Jesalyn Beeton for her animal photo, 2nd Hannah Strelbisky for her scenic photo, and 3rd place Taylor Beeton for her animal photo.
Baking and Canning was judged by Kathleen McKelvie of Ponoka. There were 30 adult entries, and 15 junior entries.
Adult Baking Section Results:
Most points in bread classes 1-4 and winner of the Margaret Adam Memorial Trophy was Gloria Coates; 2nd place Eldena Adam. Most points overall won by Elfie Smith, 2nd place Doug Swanson, and 3rd place Catherine Postill.
Judge’s Choice for Exceptional Baking in adult classes won by Adrionne Chari for her kutchen without yeast, 2nd place Eldena Adam for her chiffon cake, and 3rd place Eldena Adam for her chocolate cake.
Junior Baking Section Results:
Most points in Juniors Baking age 12 and under won by Hannah Strelbisky, 2nd place Clara Chari, and 3rd place Taylor Beeton. Most points in Juniors Baking age 13 to 16 won by William Strelbisky, 3 way tie for 2nd place Kayance Parti, Jesalyn Beeton, and Gemma Beeton.
Judge’s Choice for Exceptional Baking in junior classes won by Taylor Beeton for her squares, 2nd place William Strelbisky for his Chocolate chip cookies, and 3rd place William Strelbisky for his creative baking golf course cake.
