Exhibition & Public Programming
Another Room: Salon des Refusés is a month-long photography exhibition and public programming initiative that creates parallel space for diverse photographic practices, dialogue, and community engagement.
Inspired by the Salon des Refusés, Another Room offers an open and inclusive context for work to be seen. Presented as a parallel movement, the exhibition exists alongside established cultural programming while creating additional space for photographic practices, voices, and approaches to be encountered on their own terms.
With no predetermined theme, Another Room welcomes a wide range of photographic practices and perspectives, from documentary and conceptual work to experimental, staged, archival, and process-based approaches. The exhibition reflects a belief that strong, considered work exists across many contexts and that photography benefits from being encountered through multiple directions, perspectives, and points of entry rather than a single curatorial lens.
Another Room offers space where photography can be encountered fully—through looking, conversation, and shared experience—emphasizing presence, materiality, and intention in both image-making and presentation.
The exhibition will be supported by a program of public and community-facing events, including workshops, artist gatherings, informal talks, and companion programming developed throughout the exhibition period. These activities extend the exhibition beyond the gallery walls, reinforcing Gallery 881’s commitment to photography as a social, cultural, and creative practice.
