It’s Resurrection Sunday! The event that changed the course of history for the whole world, and every individual. The greatest love story every told. This song has brought me through the journey of reflecting on Jesus’ life & heart, mourning his death, and celebrating his resurrection in a matter of minutes, numerous times in the last few weeks, and particularly in the last few days.
On Friday we mourned that Jesus was undeservingly mocked, ridiculed, tortured, and crucified. He fulfilled the prophecies that were foretold about him. He was obedient to death on a cross. He was THE Lamb that was slain for the sins of the world — the death that we deserve.
On Saturday we sat in the silent in between. Knowing that Sunday was coming, but still sitting in grief and awaiting the anticipated hope and joy of Jesus’ resurrection.
Today is Resurrection Sunday! We celebrate that Jesus is ALIVE, that he’s RISEN, that he’s RESURRECTED! We celebrate that Jesus’ resurrection means that he was victorious over Satan, sin, and death, that he defeated what no one else could, what no law could accomplish. We celebrate that we who choose to identify our lives with Jesus’, can too live in victory not because of our own merit, but because of his righteousness and his accomplishment. And now we eagerly await the return of King Jesus, like a bride waits for her groom.
