Feels good to get back out with the camera! It’s been too long and the rust is settling in. I heard a quote the other day and it was something like this “your portfolio represents the work you have done and your social media is what you are doing now” seems fitting! - photo set from a family walk around Deer Lake in Burnaby. Thank you Gary for the lens, I finally brought it out!

“Along with the stunning scenery and descriptions of restoration efforts, the filmmaker included frequent images of Shep. I leaned closer and scrutinized Danny’s beloved vehicle. Both bumpers displayed deep, decade-old dents. The side panels and the rear doors sported more rust than paint. The interior looked unchanged. Five of my uncle’s favorite steelhead flies still protruded from the driver’s side visor. However, the van was undeniably running smoothly. I concluded that the filmmaker must have spent serious money repairing the engine, transmission, suspension and brakes.

Thirty minutes later, after the film ended, and most of the audience departed, I remained in my seat. I was unable to stop thinking that I had almost consigned Shepherd to the scrap heap.

Chagrined at my impetuousness, I vowed that, in the future, I wouldn’t be so quick to write off depleted steelhead fisheries or old fishing vehicles. I suspect Danny would have smiled and nodded his agreement.”

"I removed a half dozen of Shepherd’s interior panels before I located Danny’s repair fund. My uncle must have either raided the stash for other purposes or been more of an optimist than I remember because his rainy-day fund was woefully inadequate.

During my search through the van’s paneling, I also discovered several boxes of steelhead flies, various items of clothing, and a collection of tattered, old highway maps from every state and province in the northwest."
