While somewhere deep in the Brazilian Pantanal we had to make a stop at a simple fishing camp. Since hours we were boating through narrower and narrower streams. More creeks than rivers. Our outboard propeller had gotten badly bend and we had to hammer it straight again.
João lived here with his son and his brother. They were just cleaning some fish they had caught this morning. Red Bellied Pacu and Piranhas!!! You can see those huge, razor sharp teeth on the second photo!
Ragged chicken laying eggs in the toilet, giant lizards sunbathing next to leaky outboard engines. No other way to get in or out than many hours on the murky, winding river full of hungry caimans, giant catfish and sharp toothed Piranhas…
The camp was simple and offered a quick glimpse into the lives of the locals along this river. For me forever one of the most special moments of the trip…
