Headshot photography is all about your…. Head.

I know that sounds really shocking but it’s true! Your headshot photos help people recognize who you are.

It is easy to overdo it with jewellery and wardrobe, and the result is a headshot photo that is a little bit cluttered.

We don’t want anything distracting people from your face.

You obviously wanna feel confident and important so I do recommend clothes that make you feel great.

I believe it is Coco Chanel, who said before you leave the house take one thing off.

And that’s exactly it, sometimes when we want to look our best, we put too many things on, and it can be distracting.

If you must, wear one statement piece.

If you have a signature look, then you should absolutely wear that signature. Look for your headshot Photography.

Here are some examples of people who did not follow my headshot photography tips, and it made the photo better.

One lady wore a neon pink blazer and one of my tips is where muted colours for your headshot photos. That neon blazer is her signature look. Two years later, I was at a networking event in Prince George, and I saw her from across the room and instantly knew it was her because it was her signature neon, pink blazer. Very smart move on her part.

Another one of my favourite clients Narges Nirumvala✨(Official) chooses to embrace her natural hair that has a lot of volume. She insists on doing her own hair and makeup, and that is her signature look. I can spot her from a mile away at any crowded event. Her hair is her brand and that is a genius move.

My headshot photography tips are just suggestions and my only goal is that you have a headshot photo that moves your career in the right direction.

This wardrobe tip could be the number one tip I have for you to love your Headshots.

People often book their headshot session with me and think that because they’re spending their hard earned money on these headshot photos that they want to look their best.

They get all glammed up and where they’re fancy clothes and way more makeup than they’re used to.

The photos end up looking fabulous, obviously, but they don’t represent who you are every day.

That is the difference between a glam photo shoot and a headshot photo shoot.

Headshot photography helps show the best version of you who you are right now every day to your potential clients.

As a professional headshot photographer in Vancouver, I highly recommend dressing like you would to meet a new client.

Your wardrobe should be nice, but it should also be your work wardrobe.

Headshot photography for lawyers will be different than headshot photography for people in the tech startup space.

If you want the best headshot photos, I recommend not overdressing.

$100 USB C Cable fix my problem? Tether Tools

since switching to the Canon Canada R system, I have had nothing but troubles when it comes to tethering.

For those of you don’t know tethering is where you connect your camera to your computer so that we can review the photos in real time. This is extremely important to me as a headshot photographer.

I used the Tether Tools system for years with my Canon 5Ds with absolutely no problems.

When I switched to the Canon R5 tethering became very tricky and temperamental, which is really awful to have to troubleshoot in front of clients.

Online research led me to believe is because I was using a CFAST type B card. so I switched to an SD card and that did not solve the problem.

More research that me to believe that tether tools themselves have lowered the quality in their cables and that no longer works, so I switched to a different brand and it worked pretty decent for a while, but then it stopped working.

I started to worry that it was my USB port in the camera, which would then make me need to buy a new camera or see if I could send it back to Canon to have the USB port changed.

I thought before I did that, but I would research a little bit more.

I found that a lot of the wireless cameras have issues with USB-C cables that also provide power. So I needed a data transfer cable that did not supply power to my camera.

I’ve only used it for one shoot, but it worked perfectly.

Tether Tools thank you for the article on your website that explained the power and data transfer issue and I’m really hopeful that this cord is the answer to my problems!

What to wear for your headshot photography session?

This is the story of how I got my job as a camera operator for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

I was tempted to wear a suit and tie to my interview. I obviously wanted to make a great impression, but I chose to wear black jeans, black T-shirt, and black, running shoes.

I felt like I was taking a risk dressing down, but as a camera operator, this would be my uniform. I dressed for the job that I wanted to get.

I really do think this decision played a factor into me getting the job.

What I didn’t tell in this story was they initially wanted me to be a cable Wrangler and not a camera operator because I was young and “ inexperienced”. I begged for the opportunity to interview for the camera operating job and they reluctantly gave me a shot.

I obviously impressed them because not only did I get the camera operating job. I got the second highest position. The highest position went to the Olympic hockey games and I got the Olympic speed skating games at the brand new Richmond Olympic oval.

This was a career highlight for me and I’ll never forget it.

so when you are choosing what wardrobe to wear for your headshot session, I highly recommend wearing what you would actually wear to the office or to meet a new client and not overdress. It could be the best decision you ever made.

What to wear to your headshot photography session. Headshot photography, wardrobe tip number two.

Lawyer Headshots, accountant Headshots, Fitness, Trainor, Headshots and professional services like Rmt’s and hairstylist Headshots are going to require different wardrobes.

I highly recommend wearing what you would wear to meet a new client.

Typically the point of a new headshot photo is to find new clients and grow your business. So no matter your career, even headshots for actors, your headshot photo is a business headshot.

Simply dress for your business.

What should you wear for your headshot session?

My number 1 rule is “wear what makes you feel awesome!”

If you feel confident and great in your wardrobe, you will feel confident and great in your headshot photos.

My number one goal as a headshot photographer is to make people feel great!

Headshot photos don’t need to be stressful!

Don’t have any wardrobe that makes you feel great?

I highly recommend investing in a wardrobe stylist. Somebody who specializes in dressing people. Everybody has a different body shape and style. Shopping can be overwhelming. Hire somebody who can teach you how to dress your body for your ideal style.

How much does it cost?

It’s most likely more affordable than you think. Many stylists offer a wardrobe edit and you will learn so much about dressing your body for your style.

If you want to take your wardrobe a step further, they can take you shopping and pick out your clothes with you!

You know your headshot photography session is going to be fire if you hire a wadrobe stylist!

Jessica Pumple | Pregnancy Postpartum TV helps millions of women!

Jessica discovered her why and that motivated her to start a YouTube channel. The channel became very successful, but she learned that in order to be successful, you have to run your YouTube channel like a business.

Businesses need a lot of photos. Depending on the type of business, you will need many different kinds of photos. It’s way more than just posting a pretty photo. Atypical small business will need Headshots, lifestyle, shots, editorial photos, product photos, YouTube thumbnails, photos for your web banners, photos for advertising on Google and Facebook, photos for your trade, show booth and pamphlets, and the list goes on and on.

Specific photos are for the new app that she launched to be able to help women all over the world, helping their bodies feel strong through pregnancy and postpartum.

She needed to know how many photos the app needed as well as photos for her email blast and YouTube thumbnails but also their dimensions. YouTube thumbnails are one size, the thumbnail on the app is a different size, photos for her email blast were completely different size.

When you see a small business online or in person start noticing all the different types of photos they have. It’s an insane amount of work.

I’m so grateful every time I get to work with Jessica because we have so much fun and we create literally the best photos and I really look up to her and her business!

Finding the right headshot Photographer for you.

There are many factors that play into finding the best headshot photographer for you. Things like price and style and Weather you connect with that person.

This photo of Daniel is one of my all-time favourite headshot photos. I have ever taken because he didn’t speak English. He speaks Spanish and I know very little Spanish. Yet because I have a great ability to connect with humans of many different backgrounds and I understand body language, and how to communicate with actions, we were still able to get an amazing headshot photo. Probably one of the best Headshots he’s ever had.

His friend and colleague was with him, and we were able to communicate a little bit through his friend as she helped us translate. However, it was my ability to make him feel comfortable in very potentially uncomfortable situation that made the headshot photo shine.

Most people don’t love getting their photo taken and it’s an uncomfortable and vulnerable situation. Let alone when you don’t speak the same language.

When I’m with a headshot Client, my number one priority is to make people feel safe and comfortable. That is the reason we were able to get such a genuine smile and a wonderful hedgehog photo for Daniel.

What is the best background for your headshot?

If you need an acting headshot or a corporate headshot, its important to know where and how your going to use your headshot while knowing your goals and idea clientele.

Joseph from East 15 Technologies, inc was working on a new website and he knew his website was going to have a black/dark grey/yellow theme and branding colours.

Because he knew his branding colours, we were able to craft a headshot that would match his branding colours.

A solid colour background for your headshot photos also helps with removing all distractions and all the focus is on your face. It helps people recognize you. When you have a solid colour background it is also easier to add graphics or extend the photo to fit graphics.

Another factor to consider is finding out what everyone else is doing and do a completely different look to stand out or look at what the most successful people in your field are doing and mimic what they have done.

I black background for a headshot is a strong bold choice that most people avoid. This is going to help Joseph stand out from the competition while cohesively fitting into his website.

How many employees can a corporate headshot Photographer shoot in one day?

Or how many people can I photograph at a corporate event headshot Photo Booth activation?

There are three ways we could organize your corporate headshot day in Vancouver whether it’s for your employees at your office or whether it’s at a corporate event like a tradeshow, convention, Summit, gala or Christmas party

The first way I like to look at it is school picture day Style. If you have a massive team, we can shoot over 300 people in a single day. Each person gets three quick photos and then we’re onto the next person. We don’t have time to review each photo and make sure everyone finds their best angles, but you’re gonna get an amazing photo with great lighting and I can very quickly help pose each person for their headshot.

The second way is we can schedule each person to have one or two minutes and this allows us to quickly photograph each person while allowing them the opportunity to review the Headshots in real time and make sure that they are happy with the photos. This is the most popular option as companies typically want people to have the best Headshots possible and giving people a minute or two in front of the camera is beneficial.

The third way is the in-depth headshot experience. This will allow everyone to get the highest quality Headshots as possible if we give everyone five minutes or 10 minutes there is a lot more time to perfect the photos. Make sure your wardrobe is perfect and your tie is centered. Make sure that your hair is looking good and that we nail, the perfect expression in your headshot photo. This option we can fit about 60 to 70 people in a day.

The fourth and also a very common approach to how to schedule your headshot date is the hybrid approach. I work with companies sometimes with 1000+ employees and maybe the majority of people need a very quick shot but then 20 of the managers need more time in front of the camera so we can custom Taylor to your headshot photography needs.
