Composition check: Tight crop vs. Environmental framing? 🤔

Same bird, a common yellow throat same perch, but two completely different vibes based on where I placed the focal points. Image 1 brings you right into the bird's space, while Image 2 uses the vertical lines and the spiderweb to anchor the shot.

Watch this Great Gray Owl lock its eyes on a target and dive from about 6 feet up to snag a vole. Their hearing is so razor-sharp they can pinpoint a rustle beneath the surface, and once they commit to the drop, it’s game over.

Territorial Dominance: Yellow-headed Blackbirds are generally larger and more aggressive. When they arrive at a marsh, they typically seize the "prime" territory—usually the deep-water center where nests are safer from land-based predators.

The Red-winged Underdog: Red-winged Blackbirds are incredibly bold and will fiercely defend their slice of the marsh against anything, regardless of size. If a Yellow-headed Blackbird "visits" or attempts to expand into a Red-wing’s established perimeter, the Red-wing will use its agility to strike from above.

In the blackened heart of a standing snag, a miracle is likely unfolding. This female Great Gray Owl seems to have chosen this fire-carved hollow as her nursery.

It’s a powerful reminder that in nature, destruction often provides the perfect foundation for new life. She’s almost invisible against the charcoal bark, but those yellow eyes tell you everything you need to know about her dedication.
