A Fall Beach Photoshoot with Janelle

On a chilly fall day in Vancouver, I headed to English Bay for a photoshoot with model Janelle Cairns (). The overcast sky created magical, soft lighting, perfect for highlighting Janelle’s elegant gowns. The quiet beach offered creative freedom, and I used a strobe light with a softbox to enhance the diffused glow. Janelle’s confidence and experience brought the vision to life, with her ability to connect with the environment and express emotion through her poses. Inspired by Peter Lindbergh’s iconic 90s beach portraits, this session was both rewarding and creatively fulfilling.

Bubbles of joy at English Bay. Even on a cloudy morning, English Bay is a great spot for family photos. Recently, I photographed a young family—a mom, dad, and their toddler daughter—and we had an unexpected surprise.

A man on the beach was making giant bubbles, and he offered to include them in the session. The little girl’s excitement was priceless—she’d never seen bubbles so big! Her parents joined in, laughing and playing as the bubbles floated around them.

The spontaneous moment added so much fun to the session and made it unforgettable for the family. It’s a reminder that the best memories often come from unexpected moments.
